insects need to have it's on category. Insects are NOT an animal and should not be lumped in with animals. Same as birds. Birds should also have it's own category.

Hello Lena, thank you for suggestions. Since both insects and birds are animals, both belong in Animal category.

I hope this helps.

No... actually it doesn't. If dogs have their own category and there is a category for other mammals... then I still feel insects and birds should have their own sub category then.

Lena, birds, and insects already have their own subcategory - both are subcategories under the Animal category.

No need to be rude. I haven't been in school for decades and to me.... and insect is an insect NOT an animal. Still birds and insects SHOULD have their own categories.

There are six main classes in the animal world. Insects are actually the largest phylum of the animal kingdom: arthropods. Birds are from the phylum chordata. Mammals, actually, are among the smallest of the animal classes. Insects, for example, have roughly a million and a half species, mammals maybe 5000. So, if anything, mammals should not be in the animals' category :-)

Thank you for the biology lesson. It would just be EASIER when voting not to have to pit a bee against a moose.....

And being an adult is a good reason for not being rude. I've forgotten more than you will ever know.

Would suggest not to recategorize insects and birds until we have an average of 500 images per day getting posted in Animals. This reduces the points earned and even awards. Let's focus on getting issues fixed which is reported in other thread recently. Did you know that photo entries for Animals category has gone down significantly. Looking at where pixoto is heading even cats and dogs categories should be abolished and only Animals category should remain till we start getting many images. Can pixoto work on fixing problems and get their user base increased.

I agree with this. It’s just like how they recategorized my landscape photo into “buildings and architecture” because it had an old fence in the foreground. Then it’s pitted against beautiful buildings and barns and then it did horrible. I suggested a farm or field category but got promptly ignored and told to read the description of what a landscape is. I then reported a guy who had a big house in a landscape but the house took up more than 50% of the photo so by their definition would not qualify as a landscape. I reported it as being in the wrong category but they never recategorized it like they did mine. I watched it for a week and it was still in landscapes. My fence might be taking up 5% of the photo. Is there favoritism?

Hello Chad, can you please post a link to the image in question that you reported over a week ago and it wasn't recategorized yet so we can check?

Thank you for a suggestion for the new category.

Perhaps this is true, Lena, but at least I know what an animal is. Lol. And look, here at Pixoto, one is looking to judge photographic merit in a photograph. In the Animals category, this means judging technical qualities such as acuity, depth of field, processing, etc. and aesthetic presentation in such elements as framing, color and symmetry. So although you may, in fact, be presented with dissimilar subjects, you can form a judgment on those photographic qualities. Claiming an insect is somehow not an animal is only a manifestation of personal frustration, not a valid (indeed, not a logical) assertion. Yes, theoretically, any group could be further subcategorized, but to what purpose? Someone mentioned that Cats and Dogs are separate categories, but keep in mind that these are domesticated animals (at least in most Western nations) and, as such, are viewed quite differently than the rest of the animal kingdom. We could extend subcategories ad infinitum, but this exercise would be predicated on an illogical premise and, I suspect, the result would yield little more than unnecessary confusion.

And Lena, I apologize if you thought I was being "rude." Cheeky, perhaps, but with what I perhaps misjudged as humor.
