Be careful what you wish for

I recently passed the 5000 followers mark, 5019 to be exact, which, sadly, is not any cause for celebration. Of these 5000 followers, maybe a couple dozen regularly comment on my posted images, and hundreds have favorited the images without comment. My question is: why are the other 4000 plus followers really following me? Is it because my name often appears on the list of people to follow? Is it because they want to see what I post so they can post similar images in hopes of duplicating a high score? Or, taking the conspiracy theory approach, do they want to see what images I post on their feed so they can vote for them, or more likely, against them?

My latest experience is with a fan(?) who goes by the name, Unknown. He or she lives in Rawalpindi, in northern Punjab, Pakistan. This person has no images posted and the moniker by which they go is somewhat suspect and very puzzling, and not in a good way.

The point of all this is that those of you who bemoan the fact that you don't have many followers, all I can say is: be careful what you wish for.

Hi John, I really don't know how can I reply to your questions. I can reply why I am following you, and that is to see images you upload because I think you are talented photographer and I enjoy looking at your images.

Thank you for your kind words, Jasenka. My questions were just rhetorical ones to which I know the answers.

I was just pointing out to those togs who feel like their image and status would somehow be enhanced if they had more people following them is not usually the case, nor in their best interest.

I already had that kind of feeling John but I learned to trust my followers whatever their reasons of following me....Hope this helps!
