I was frustrated after hours of taking matter into my own hands trying to make positive change to this site. We've all been asking for over a year to do something about the duplicators and intentional wrong category submitters- something more than just moving their pictures. More then just deleting the duplicates. More than deleting them weeks after we report them many times.
Yes- I tried to shame them out of continuing to do what they were doing. Shame them into removing them themselves by labeling them "DUPLICATE" as a comment. Or "wrong category"
What choice did I have? You refuse to do anything to deter people. I've told you numerous ways to handle it- solid solutions that are fair and would be affective. For 13 years I reorganized failing companies to become profitable and was really good at it.
All I've ever done is try to help you become more successful as well. Customer satisfaction is vital to your business succeeding long term.
Not dealing with the cheaters is going to be your undoing. Everyone's completely fed up- The way your dealing with it isn't acceptable to the contestants.
A contestant should never have to take matters into their own hands to make change happen. The solution isn't to ban the person from helping- the answer is to solve the problems that made the commenting become necessary.
I'm not sorry for trying to make a difference.
At least I cared enough to try!
I tell the photographer what he/she has done wrong and point them in the direction of where to find the info and what they have done wrong. I have only once had a problem with another tog.
The comments issue should be resolved, its simple, get rid of those 3 points for the worthless comments many post...like nice....one even said boost?
I've only been on Pixoto for about a week and I understand your frustrations. I also see a lot of duplicates, similar images, wrong categories and areas of possible unscrupulous practices and some people just don't completely read and or understand the instructions.
Pixoto is used by a varied international group of photographers and artists with varied cultural backgrounds and languages. We all don't see, read, hear and think the same thing all the time. I also see that some of Pixoto's sections aren't well defined enough to avoid confusion. I think in some cases things are getting lost in translation and there will always be some who will play unfair by "our" standards.
For example I posted an image of an original sculpture that I created in the Traditional Art/Sculpture section. I noticed nearly 75% of the other images were photos that people had taken of other people's works. I'm confused, which is it or is it both?
Pixoto seems to be under manned at checking the 100s if not 1000s of images.
When I see an image that I like, I say so with a nice comment or vote for it. Also when I check "My Images," it feels like I'm feeding a slot machine waiting for a pay off. That's no way to win a Challenge.
There are some really great photos and photographers on Pixoto, but I'm not going to waste my time or money trying to fix things. Good luck!
I understand the language differences- that's why most times I take the time to explain why.
Banning me actually violates my right to equal opportunity to earn points.
It doesn't say anywhere that a negative comment will get you banned. It only says to say something nice- which I often did.
what bothers me is I cant say "thanks" to people who commented on my work- or reply to people who ask me a question.
I think sometimes when a fellow member tries to explain something regardless of how kind and positive it is, it turns out and is perceived as condescending to the other person. Communicating on-line has it's downfalls.
I haven't been banned(yet!) but my photograph of a topless woman smoking in the open air was reported by some troll as being in the wrong category. It was in 'Portraits of Women'. I was informed that it had been moved to 'Nudes and Boudoir' and no apology for deleting my 650 image score in the process:
did you actually get banned from posting comments???
The typical response "nice" is kinda lame. But I'm guilty of using it too. There are just to many good stuff out there.
I will try be better by explaining why I write wrong category on them.
I still feel that submitting in a wrong category simply gets it deleted with a generic computer generated email triggered that states- your image was submitted in the wrong category and was deleted. Please read the category descriptions below and resubmit. Refund them the 10 points so they've lost nothing.
trust me- everyone will quickly learn to submit in the right category and you will have MUCH less work to do! We are all adults- we can handle having consequences for our actions. Same with duplicates- delete both copies and see how fast everyone never submits duplicates again. And yes- they loose points and awards earned by both copies of it. People cannot get mad at you for it- they chose to duplicate- they are choosing to get caught and pay the price. Your training people to not cheat.
WHO AGREES WITH THE FOLLOWING SOLUTION?
Announce by email that starting November 10th, all wrong category submissions will be deleted at the time they are reported- regardless of what their current score is. Your submission points will be refunded- fell free to submit again in the right category. And all copies of duplicates will be deleted. no points will be refunded and all awards /points for that image will be removed. You will be allowed to resubmit a single copy of the image to the right category.
Plus, there are too many ambiguous category descriptions here. Some categories ARE obvious .... a tiger is not a person, for example :-) but what about a sunset picture that shows a large boat docked on a beach festooned with Christmas lights. Landscape? Transportation? Holiday? What if someone dressed up as Santa Claus wearing swim trunks is standing beside the boat? Should it be People? :-)
My opinion: I think a delay of having shots appear on our account -- a delay so that a Pixoto staff member can double-check for watermarks, category choice etc -- would be ideal :-)
The trouble with the delay idea is that there are thousands of images submitted each day and it seems the staff can't keep up with the work they already have.
Pixoto should take advantage of the few people on here - like myself- who have been willing to put in many hours to find and report things in the forum section- we want power more than to get paid. Power to move pictures, To delete duplicates. We are obviously willing and able to help- so make us moderators. It's what I've been doing anyhow. Look at how much we report- all that could be taken care of for you by us. Give us special log in to access at least the power to delete duplicates.
