Bad voting

I am not normally one to complain about duels but I am surprised and concerned that my photograph http://www.pixoto.com/images-photogra... has just been beaten by this photograph:http://www.pixoto.com/images-photogra..., which is not even in focus. I am saddened to think that someone has voted against my photograph just to keep my points down. I can only hope that it was indeed a mistake and not a deliberate act.

It could be that someone is voting carelessly just for the credits. I doubt its anyone deliberately voting down your shot although that has happened.
But also it could be someone voting on a cell phone where the images are smaller and faults not so apparent.

Remember--all types of photographers are "allowed!" Doesn't mean one has to be particularly good...lol! Kuddos to those who try, as their participation might help them improve! And it might just be a matter of taste--someone who likes bees better than wee dragonflies?? Who knows! We all don't have the same opinion, that's for sure!

Whether you like bees better than dragonflies shouldn't enter into your judging. You should be judging the quality of the photo. I'm surprised that that bee even made it to 500+ points. The judging and quality of entries lately has really taken a down turn.

I think a big problem is voting on mobile phones and small screen devices ?
it is hard to notice if an image is slightly out of focus or of poor quality in many other ways on a small screen,
It can be a very honest mistake due to an inability to see clear enough !!

So why does Pixoto's voting system not flag this? There is no way a fuzzy amateurish photo should outrank one with crispness and clarity. This is exactly why I no longer upload images here. There is no way that the out of focus image could be considered "better" - not in anyone's judgement!

I would imagine Pixoto's algorithms look at patterns of votes not at individual images so where one that is out of focus will not show as "bad voting" but a pattern of rhythmic or fast votes would stand out !

Sadly not all problems are as easy to find a solution and occasionally it affects us all i have had some strange decisions against me but i find its best to let it go and move on, i am dam sure it will happen again !

I agree with Ralph Harvey--the small screens on phones and other devices make it hard to see the image most clearly. Sometimes it is difficult to make a choice on a bigger screen, if both images are superior! And I , too, have had some odd decisions made in regard to some of my images, in my opinion. But that is life, and to be expected in any contest--for whatever the reason.
