Its near the end of November and still no mention of the "Photographer of the Year" issue ? are we going to get an answer or are we just going to accidental slip into December and oh its too late to do anything now !

Sorry if i sound a bit cynical but this issue is mentioned every year and was started early in September well before the end of the year?

Ralph, I don't know if you saw the suggestion I made months ago concerning Best Photographers of the Year award, but it was basically fueled by your suggestion with some compromise thrown in, in hopes of satisfying those whose images receive top scoring averages for the year, as well as those togs who are ranked highly in player contribution as evidenced by their point standing.

In it's simplest form, and it may just be a repeat of what you suggested, Pixoto would still tabulate the top twenty togs in each category with highest top ten scoring average. The only change would be in the red banner, which would now read "Best images of the Year."

A second banner would be awarded (I suggested gold) and this would be the new Best Photographers of the Year award. It would encompass the top twenty "contributors" based on their yearly point standing, which can be found, though not easily under top contributors.

This suggestion, to me, seems as if it would satisfy those who have had the good fortune of shooting some exceptional images that have scored extremely high, but who may not be as involved in the site as others. It should also satisfy those who enter almost daily and have put in the hard work of submitting top ten scoring images for the day, week and month, thus resulting in their top twenty contributor standings. It will also revive renewed interest in player position, which is now called contributor position, which Pixoto has touted so heavily since it's exception.

Like you, Ralph, have heard nothing more about this suggestion, but hope springs eternal, and just maybe you'll get an answer before we're into the new year.

Completely agree John the top images are deserving of an award but as images and the top players are a separate entity.

Jason did say back in late September or early October i don't remember which that he would make a decision in November ? so there is still hope slim but hope ?

We can just wait

Hi, Jasenka! The first week in December will be over in a matter of hours and wondering if Jason, et al, have come to a decision on Ralph Harvey's long standing question concerning the difference between Best Photographers of the Year, and how they are picked, and Best Photos of the Year. I would also be interested in my suggestion above concerning Best Photographers of the Year being culled from Top Contributors of the year in each category, with status given as well to the top scoring photos of the year in each category.

I think you all understand that this question of how to most equitably pick Best Photographers of the Year vis-a-vis Best Photos of the Year is not going to go away without a definitive answer from Pixoto Staff, and it would be nice to get a final decision on it before the ball drops in Times Square and another new year is upon us

After much deliberation, hemming, hawing, screaming, squabbling, crying, laughing, and general contention we have decided that the Photographer of the Year awards will be assigned based on POINTS.

I'd be happy to discuss our reasons if you anybody is curious....

I think the point is that the two methods yield pretty much the same people.  For example in Animals last year you and I think one other photographer were the only ones who were on the top of the leaderboard but didn't get a badge.  Giving two sets of badges would just confuse things.

if I understand it nice, this method is used to select the top 20 photographers, and I'm interested in whether this method applies equally well to the photographer No1 at the end of the year?
So, what decide who will be the best photographer (No1) in the category, the total number of points or something else?
