There are so called photographers purposely voting on obviously poor quality photos, to bring someone else's image numbers down. I have seen this being done to my photos and other member's photos. Obviously the people doing this are not real photographers and have no respect for photography. I am fairly new to this site and was wondering if anyone else has seen this nasty behavior? Is this something that goes on here regularly? I can't imagine doing this to anyone.

This had been an issue since three years ago as you read the link below. It's part of the reality in every community voting site. Getting the most fair duels take luck, and good timing. Hopefully when your photo starts to duel, the cheats are either asleep or busy doing something else. Since the first duels are the most crucial.

thank you for the link, very interesting thread. I suspect you are right about luck and timing. I uploaded a photo yesterday that finished #1 for the day, but now it is losing image points (707 to 688). I am not saying my photo is perfect however it is obvious what is going on. I have seen this happen to other's photos also. I have the feeling it has something to do with the money they award as my photo was also in the first position for the week, that had to be a threat to this person or persons because now it is in ninth position. I wouldn't have a problem if the photos it was losing against were as good or better quality, but this is just wrong.

This is always a good question and there are two answers, 1. Yes this goes on regularly, and 2, Lots of folks have really bad taste! As you seem to already know by your post...having a camera and pointing it at things does not make someone a "real photographer"., Pixoto welcomes everyone so these folks are bound to get in, Taking pictures is fun for most people, whether they have talent or respect for the artistry involved or not.

I've noticed the Pixoto staff generally catch up to the cheats, and rely on members to report what cheating we suspect. I've also found that if you look at the leader boards the vast majority of the time the best images end up there despite the cheating. (And please don't think I count myself among the great photographers here. I've been here for three years and still can't get a 700+ score on any image).

I enjoy the banter back and forth in the commentary section on individual images more than the dueling outcomes because anyone can blindly click in duals, but folks who take the time to write a comment on your image...they are sincere.

My advice would be use Pixoto to keep yourself inspired and have fun despite the jealous cheats who have no desire to learn the respect for art that you have. I have images on most major stock photo sites and Pixoto is by far the most fun and interesting!

thank you Tim, i appreciate your comment. It is nice to know that the Pixoto team is doing what it can to head off the cheats. That in itself is quite an undertaking Thank you also for your advice. I will do exactly that. :)

Yes, I am a member of less than 1 month and I learned this right away. It goes on fairly regularly and Pixoto will tell you they have a system that will catch the cheats, but that hardly every happens unless the person is foolish and votes too quickly and/or votes for photos on one side of the page consistently and the like (pattern voting). Then there are people who have opened multiple accounts so that they can vote on their pictures in Image Duals and Challenges from their other accounts. I have also noticed a very suspicious pattern recently of my photos almost always losing the first 4 or 5 duals in very quick order after I upload the photo before they start to get some wins and things start improving. I think that suspicious pattern is technological in nature and not from real voting. Also, if you are a photographer (especially amature) joining this site thinking that this voting process is going to tell you something about your photography and photography skills (good or bad), think again. First, you have some people gaming the system through suspicious voting. Next, I have had some photos score in the 600s here that I recently submitted to Shutterstock--an actual professional stock photo business with professionals that review all photo submissions, and only half of my photos that scored in the upper 500s and 600s here on Pixoto even passed their review. You will find some excellent photography here and some photographers at the top of their game, but everyone else who duals as a way of getting a pulse on their photography and photography skills is fooling themselves into a false sense of reality based on the Image Duals and Challenges.

thank you Bridgette for your comment and insight. I joined this site because some friends of mine from other sites are here. I wanted to see what it was all about. I am not looking for any type of validation on my photography skills. I enjoy being in a community of other photographers. It affords me the opportunity to look at different photos and apply improvements to my own work. I do not have any illusions about my talent (or lack there of) :) there are some very talented people here and I hope to learn from them.

Bridgette, i want to add that I also had the suspicious pattern you talked of. Yesterday was really a challenge. Every photo i submitted lost every duel ? i re-submitted and re-submitted 5 or 6 photos. Finally I waited an hour or so and tried again and amazingly enough it stopped. I can't tell you how many credits I used it was crazy.

Susan, then enjoy the ride -- for a "ride" it is. Also, if you are a free member, as opposed to a PRO member, be careful with the ads that appear on some of your account pages. One in particular is set up to make it appear Pixoto has sent you Messages, but that is not the case and if you click on it, you may very well end up with a computer virus if you are doing it from a laptop/desktop. I reported it and here's a sample of the screen shot I provided in this community: https://d2r1vs3d9006ap.cloudfront.net...

Yes, Susan, it was so obvious to me when I uploaded about 10 pictures at the same time and they all went through that same pattern of immediately losing the first 4 to 5 duals.

I am sorry that happened to you however I am happy to know I wasn't the only one. It sounds more like a technical glitch than malice. hmmmm, curious at how the algorithm is programmed.

No doubt, to me, it is a programing/IT issue, but I believe, further, it is not from actual voting.
