"Instant" feedback on votes...?

Now, I'm a newcomer to this photography malarky - I only picked up a camera a year or so ago - and so am keen to improve (Frankly, I'm surprised that some of the images I've posted here have done as well as they have :)

Anyhow, I'm wondering - in order to garner some useful feedback - if it'd be possible to add something to the image duels to gather some feedback from A Random Voter as to why, in their opinion, one image is 'better' than another...? I've not completely thought this through, but perhaps some kind of generalised 'checklist' that pops up when a vote is cast? (You know; comp, alignment, sharpness, light, post, interestingness.... or something)

I can see this might restrict the usability of the system unless done well, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway... as such a thing could have the potential to help us nascent 'photographers' learn what to look for in an image to improve it.

and it also might stop "speed voting" and make people stop and think about why they vote, thus giving more reliable results.

Recently we did add comment fields to the duel images but it is not required to comment or to give feedback,

I'm aware of that button and have, on occasion, used it to give (hopefully) constructive feedback on a particular image.

However, that is not what I'm talking about, since it doesn't provide a mechanism to relate the two images in the duel and why one was perceived as (subjectively) 'better' than the other.

It seems to me that - here as on most other sites with a commenting facility - it is mostly used to offer non-specific praise for a particular image ("cool". "nice shot" etc, etc) which, while nice and warm and fuzzy, doesn't tend to provide feedback for improvement.

So not the same thing at all then.

This in nice suggestion, but I see a problem here.

Only pro members (ones paying subscriptions) can see all duels their photo has.
Nonpaying members can only see last 3 duels. So if Pixoto implement what you suggested, nonpaying users will get notification that for instance their photo was better composed, sharper, interesting... then the other photo but wouldn't be able to see the other photo if it had duelled user's photo 4 or more duels ago.
(hope I'm making sense with this :D)

Makes sense to me...

I also think it would be nice to have SOMETHING give more incentive, to get MORE people to go "pro" ...More money for Pixoto...then maybe they could hire another person or two to help go through pics and correctly categorize them, or answer "Reported" pics FASTER! :)

Hmmm. That's a fair point, Jasenka. Not insurmountable, though.

As it stands you don't get an email notification for each duel (and rightly so, my inbox doesn't need that sort of traffic... ;) so leave that be and - for non-pro - just show the last three reasons, as now. That would still be more feedback than is currently available.
