Your desktop web video player is aweful

Let me list what's wrong with your video player on my 1366px-wide laptop :

1. It's too tall to fit on my screen in height.
2. I have to scroll down to get to the controls.
3. I can't read the synopsis while watching a trailer any more.
4. It autoplays the video, which is bad in itself, but also means that the video starts muted (yep, browsers don't let you autoplay videos with sound these days).
5. It autoplays other videos at the end without warning and without any way to disable it like on YouTube.
6. It autoplays other videos at the end that are completely unrelated to the current video.
7. Once you scroll down to get to the controls, you have to scroll back up to find the back button.
8. This is not new, but there's no way to pick the playback quality and it doesn't seem to be smart enough to adjust the quality based on network speed.

Latest player update is annoying, right after you start watching or going full screen, you see lots of very big icons on screen:
  1. sound,
  2. full screen,
  3. play,
  4. backward,
  5. forward,
  6. share,
  7. progress bar with seconds (too big).
If user start video, he wants to see video without any distractions. And asking not to move mouse is not an options, since sometimes you do move it accidentally.

Go to, start video and move mouse on video, what do you see? Almost nothing, just tiny controls bar on bottom (minimal distraction). And even that has some opacity, making it even less distracted.

Is is OK to show some icons on mouse move, but put everything on control bar on bottom, with small icons, leaving center video and even top video section clear. Users knows that clicking on video will stop/pause it, and next/previous keyboard buttons will work too. You don't need big icons for that.

Few months ago somebody added auto-mute for all videos...

Please think about users too, test UX before releasing new versions. You have amazing site with amazing data, let us enjoy it also on video section.
