Why is the new Mad About You considered a separate series?

I asked this in another thread but it was never answered. Why is the season of Mad About You? I know it isn't on the original network, NBC, but it is a continuation of the previous series using the same actors and characters.

Limited release probably. Only available to those that get Spectrum Cable. Your in a city that does not have it or live in rural America, your out of luck. What good is it if it is available to only 5 or 10% of the fans that watched the original? It may as well not exist. I cannot pay any amount of money to stream it either!

That has absolutely no bearing on whether it is or is not a continuation of the same series. After all, countless other series were continued on Netflix, Amazon or Pop TV and are considered a continuation of the same series.

Pop TV is available to less that half the number of people as Spectrum. Do you want to continue to be wrong?

Netflix series, such as Longmire, are considered continuations. Netflix has 60 million subscribers. Spectrum has over 100 million.

100 Million people can have Netflix. Spectrum has a limited market.

So, BBC shows or any foreign TV shows don't exist because they have limited markets. Pretty much all shows have limited markets. Logic really isn't your strong suit, now is it? The show currently exists in a limited market but that has no bearing at where it will exist in the future or whether it is a continuation of the previous show. Again, Pop is continuing One Day at Time and is in an even more limited market but it will be a continuation. I'm not sure you have a point.

I have a Spectrum Fiber optic station exactly 3.2 miles away from my residence. It's been there for 2 years. But I cannot get Spectrum because they have not laid the cabling!
If a series is a continuation, it should have the same availability. Otherwise it is limited.
Right back where we started.
Limited.

That is a silly analogy. If you cannot see the restrictiveness in the premise then I have no solution for you to wrap your brain around.

I agree with Adrian. The revival of "Mad About You" appears to be a similar situation as what happened to "Will & Grace", "Murphy Brown", and "Roseanne" in the last 3 years, and in all three cases the revivals of those shows are treated as part of the original series, not a separate series.'

The fact that the new version of the show airs on a different platform with more limited distribution doesn't change the content of the show or its relationship to its original series. Suppose that Spectrum Originals were to license the episodes of the "Mad About You" revival to NBC or the CW or USA Network or Netflix. They would still be the same episodes but just available on a more national, non-regional basis.

I'm going to continue to bump this until it gets an answer. This show is a continuation of the previous show and should be listed as a new season, not a new series.

Is there a reason why there is no official response or action on this?

This has been "acknowledged" for 2 months but nothing has happened and no official response. The new season of Mad About You is advertised and set in the same world as the previous so it should be a new season, not a separate show. Can we get an answer why it isn't?

I agree with you that this is a continuation and the episodes from the 2019 revival found at tt7793412 should be merged into season 8 of tt0103484.

Adrian if you want to kick of the merger and share the submission ref here I will get the data editors to push it through.

So, it looks like these were all declined as the processing dates for Title Merges is past the date I submitted these.

It's been a month since I submitted these merges and they did not go through. Can a staff member please look at this. It's crazy that it has taken this long to get any attention.

Sorry again for the delay on this one - unfortunately I missed these threads. I've resubmitted the merges and they should be processed by our data editors next time they tackle title merges.

Thanks. I have another series merge and wanted to get this one out of the way before I have to complain about that one not getting merged. :D

Do we have any idea when this will happen? I submitted the merges for The Alieniest: Angel of Darkness episodes into The Alieniest as season 2 yesterday and all of those merges have happened and I just submitted the merge of the series page. Yet, the Mad About You episodes still remain.
