Where'd My Theater Go?

Have used IMDB app on iPhone, and IMDB.com on PC for years to look up movies at our local theater, which is alive and happily in business, yet suddenly has disappeared from all results for "Theaters" in IMDB.   Have set the correct zip code on the PC, and use Location Svces on iPhone...  Our theater is gone!   Only returns theaters nearly 40 miles away.   What happened?

Hi Art,

The Showtimes and cinema listings on IMDb are provided by our partner, Webedia.

If your local theater information is missing, I recommend reaching out to Webedia directly or having the theater contact Webedia via the "Get Listed" link on https://www.webediamoviespro.com/

Taylor....  That's it?  IMDB's app stops providing content and functionality that has been there for years, and you want me to go talk to IMDB's content provider?

Here's the thing:  I obtained the IMDB App and put it on my phone so I can look up movie times, and now it doesn't work.  Worked fine for years, same theater, now it doesn't.

Its not up to me to contact IMDB's content provider in order to repair whatever went wrong... I'll get another app or bookmark a website!

If it does that to the theater in our city, how can I trust IMDB to provide showtimes NEAR me anywhere else if I'm traveling?   How many theaters will it leave out then?

Its like any other app.... it stops working,  I stop using and uninstall.  Sorry to see it come to that.

Sorry about this.

Since you mention your zipcode we assume you are in the US, in which case, Webedia provide almost all online services with theatrical showtimes so the listings are likely to have disappeared from all other apps, services and search engines.

If you search on Google are the showtimes correctly listed there? If so,  please let us know the name and location of the missing theater and we will investigate as this will be an IMDb issue. If not, it is likely that either the theater has simply forgotten to send their latest showtimes to Webedia or a technical issue is preventing the export of their data to Webedia. This why the second part of Taylor's recommendation suggests you can mention the problem to the theater staff on your next visit, as unfortunately we do not have any relationship with your local theater and so you, as an actual customer, are in the best position to report the issue to them.  Sorry.

My zip code is 97527, and yes, the latest showtimes appear even in search results if I google the theater, which is Southgate Cinemas, 1625 Ringuette Street, in Grants Pass, Oregon.

I understand Taylor's thinking, in the reply to me, however the fact remains....  IMDB provides a service, and this is a case of the service not functioning correctly, regardless the mechanics that normally make it successful.  Now its not.  Something changed.

I am not the right person to go negotiate with a theater about what unsolicited web services they should register with.  IMDB chose Webedia to provide content, and I'm reporting a failure of that process.   I can't speak to the theater about the benefits of listing with any particular service over another.  And if I tried, I'd be talking to a pimple-faced teenager trying to sell me a bag of popcorn.... how far do you think that will go?

I'm only writing all this because I've enjoyed using IMDB and hate to see it go.  But if it can't do what it promises, then it goes.... regardless of whether the failure resides with a 3rd party.

I would have (and did...) expected that IMDB's app would include a way of manually entering the name of a theater if it unexpectedly doesn't show up in results.... thus generating an effort on IMDB's part to shore up the missing information.   Instead, the theater simply disappears all together and IMDB tells me to fix it for them???

Thank you for taking time to respond.  I like a lot of things about IMDB. But this is basic foundational functionality for the IMDB app.... its why I use the app in the first place.  If you think this is something that realistically might get fixed, please let me know!   If not... then as I said....  I'll miss you guys.   Please know that it isn't "just me" that you will write off, its the several thousand potential IMDB users that show up at that one theater EVERY weekend!!!    How many other theaters have you lost?

Thanks for the location details.  Can you confirm this is still broken for you?  We have tried on the web at https://www.imdb.com/showtimes/US/97527 and specifically your preferred theater at https://www.imdb.com/showtimes/cinema/US/ci0008418/US/97527 and all works fine.  We see the same (functioning) results on both the iOS and Android apps too.

We are investigating whether this was a temporary glitch with the showtimes service yesterday.

[We will reply to your other points once we resolve the immediate issue]
