Post the name of the latest movie you've seen and your rating out of 10.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales:  4/10.  Johnny Depp flailing around as a loser pirate?  No, thank you.

Went a different direction tonight.  Went to see a special 75th anniversary (digitally restored) edition of Casablanca (1942) at the IFC Center.  Rewatch didn't disappoint.  Still a 10000/10 or something like that.

When it comes to seeing Casablanca, you must ban the "should" and you should use the "must".

Stephen,
You mentioned in another post something about "Tsarstepan."  Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I think I've seen that name somewhere... are you on the RiffTrax suggestions page?

Mandy (2018), 9/10.  So freaky triptastic.  I hope Nicolas Cage gets a sequel to this one.  Haven't read any Ghostrider comics but this spirit and tenacity was what those failures of superhero (not that this is a superhero movie) films should have at least half attempted.

I suspect this will get a handful of Razzies (and the script kind of deserves it for some of the head injury induced one liners and dialogue).

Perhaps it will also get a few technical Oscar noms (and kind of a shame that Jóhann Jóhannsson's last score is ineligible for a best score nomination though it isn't his best... still deserves a posthumous statue).

Roma (2018), 8/10.  Will finally watched this one.  I think I can formulate my 2018 favorite film list (without worrying too much about any omissions... though I won't rule out any possible future changes).

Alfonso Cuarón's film won't make it.  My list is going to be 13 long.  Don't think this would make my top 20 if I went that far ahead ... but likely won't.  Still, it's a much more watchable Oscar contender than  A Star is Born which had its insufferable moments....

The Aristocats 6/10.  Cute and fun, but not a showstopper.
Venom 4/10.  Okay, motorcycle chase is awesome, but somehow dull.

One of the finest Western movies I've ever seen, the Coen brothers' Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
This is a movie that not only pays tributes to the genre through its most colorful, enduring and endearing archetypes: gunslingers, duels, bar brawls, gold diggers, desperados, hanging, wagon trains, "Indians vs. cowboys", stagecoaches, bounty hunters etc. but does so in different tones and attitudes toward storytelling: humor, absurd, tragedy, thrills... and by telling 6 stories which are all as memorable one another and the casting is just perfect.

I can't believe this movie hasn't been in more awards talk (is it a Netflix issue?), this film would have deserved a nod for Best Cinematography, Costume Design, a Best Supporting Actress for Kazan or at least a spot in the AFI Top 10.

Seriously, I can't recommend this movie enough, maybe the title was misleading and everyone expected a movie to deal with a man with the incongruous name of Buster Scruggs, but it's quite sad that this film won"t be as remembered as Django Unchained or True Grit (remake).

Well, she would deserve it (at least the nod)... but I checked on the awards section, the film didn't pop up many times.

You're most definitely right. It's been missing from a lot of the current Awards season and general end if the year movie Roundup talks.

That's a shame, it's like a How the West Was Won tailor-made for the 2010s and with a fine balance between nostalgia and revisionism, and the cinematography is simply beautiful.

The Office (U.S.) 8/10 stars.  It's rare and unique given that it combines comedy, drama, and reality and still stays watchable and even engrossing.  Most characters are silly but you really care about them.
