Thought I'd post this here until I hear we're doing it somewhere else....

Post the name of the latest movie you've seen and your rating out of 10.

Sunshine Boys (t0073766) - 7/10 - loved Burns, hated Matthau.

Running Wild (2017) - 6/10. It felt like a TV Movie.

Seven Samurai (1954) - 9/10, it took me this long to see a Akira Kurosawa film.

The Poseidon Adventure - 7/10 - so much yelling!!! Hackman and Borgnine probably had to drink hot water with honey and lemon every night on this shoot!
The Cardinal - 7/10

Una familia de tantas (1949) - 9/10  one of the most praised classical Mexican movies, and with a good reason.

Hostage (2005) - 6.5/10, over the top ending and a wasted relationship between Bruce Willis and his family take points away.

Last few

Alien convendant 2 for story because it was predictable from the start. You see every plot twist coming a mile away. Ridley Scott's dirrection4 because you can do only so much with a bad story.

"In Harm's Way" rewatch, 7.2 excellent direction but long and slow story and the terrible effects still mart it.

"Pirates Of The Carribean: On Stranger Tides" can't rate it because a scratch on the disc disrupted a major portion of the film.

"Rush" long and slow but the final race drew me in plus it was thought provoking. As much as people hated Niki Luader, he was right almost every single time 6.6.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) - 5/10, dissapointing. While the comic book style images were very welcomed, all the villians were lame characters without anything interesting, and the chemistry between Garfield and Stone that was the best thing of the first part was completely lost here.

This wasn't Tom Holland's. This was the last film with Andrew Garfield in the main role. I expect Marvel's Cinematic Universe Version will be better.

Ghost in a Shell (2017) 5.5

Crime and Punishment in Suburbia (2000) 6 or maybe even 6.5

Quarantine (2008) 4.5

Changing Lanes (2002) This is one of those films that seems better for some personal or more   nebulous reason whereas, as objectively as one can be about any kind of art, it doesn't seem to be quite as good. So, more objectively, I'd say 7, which is good, but I liked it as much or even more than some "better" (movies with an 8 or so) films I've seen. It spoke to me, however, in a way that has a lot to do with what I needed to see that night and around this time, so it will be interesting to see what I think of it in a year or so.

A Quiet Passion (2016/2017) This is a tough one for me to rate. It's kind of a case of the opposite situation from Changing Lanes. There was a lot to admire -- the innovative camera work, great score and use of it, skilled and creative directing, good performances, etc., -- but I just didn't feel connected, which is odd because it's about Emily Dickinson, whose work I love, and it focuses, in part, on her poetry and feminism, with which I identify. I also hate the title but I don't know that that has anything to do with my judgement of the film. Anyway, I guess I'll say 7.

Interesting to hear your view of A Quiet Passion. I haven't seen it, but heard good and bad things.

I can't seem to get my head around why I didn't find it more compelling, except that it seemed to have the outer trappings of a good film but I just didn't feel much. I'm not sure, though, if that has more to do with the movie or more to do with me or my expectations or some such thing.

Lion (2016) - 7/10. The first part was fantastic, but it lost part of its rythm in the second half.

Just got through seeing it "Pirates Of The Carribean: Dead Men Tell No Tales " definite a 9 or 8 out of 10. A definate improvement over "POTC: On Stranger Tides". But still there was some confusing moments in the action scene that could have been flushed a little better. The whole thing with the bank and getting Jack on the water just took too long.

Panorama of Ealing from a Moving Tram (1901) - 6/1.

Pencho rated this earlier in this thread and provided the following link to watch it. (It takes maybe two minutes to watch. I think it's worth two minutes.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmEcxE0MPgM

Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King - 9/10 - so great. Despite his being a correspondent on The Daily Show. there isn't a ton of political stuff. I am a sucker for immigrant family comedy stories which this has in spades. Plus he grew up near where I did so there's some fun place-name drops.
