Thought I'd post this here until I hear we're doing it somewhere else....

Post the name of the latest movie you've seen and your rating out of 10.

Sunshine Boys (t0073766) - 7/10 - loved Burns, hated Matthau.

I wanted to like Whip It so much more than I did. The characters, the comradery, the music...but it just somehow didn't come together. A shame.

I liked it a bit, which is why it gets a 6, which is, to me, pretty good (like a C+ish) but I felt a lot like you did: I wanted to like it more than I did. It just fell somewhat flat for a reason that I can't really figure out: like you said, it somehow just didn't seem to come all together. Ellen Page is usually entertaining and compelling, though, and I thought she was in this, as well.

Alienator (1990) - 3/10 one of those so bad it is worth checking out movies. The dialogue and the delivery is worth it alone.

Sounds very riffable for the likes of Rifftrax or the next season of Mystery Science Theater 3000?

They would have a field day with this movie. I'm surprised the guys haven't already riffed this.

... oh and I just looked up the screenwriter out of curiosity and he was only written two movies. Alienator and Cyclone (1987) (a movie that looks completely ridiculous but I want to see those silly special effects.

Thursday night:
Overlord (2018), 7/10.

This afternoon:
Boy Erased (2018), 8/10.

This evening:
The first two episodes of Jonestown: Terror in the Jungle (2018– ) via the Doc NYC Film Festival.  I don't have Sundance TV so I'm not sure when I'll see the remaining two episodes of this doc miniseries ... but so far a 9/10.  Two of Jim Pastor Jim Jones and a survivor of the Jonestown Massacre were there for a Q and A after the screening.

Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) - 7/10, I'm not an expert besides liking some songs, but my girlfriend says it changed and lacked in some parts of their history.

Bitva za sevastopol (2015) - 7/10, first non documentary film from Ukraine I have seen. Interesting to have a soviet look at World War II.

Big (re-watch) - 8/10

Solo: A Star Wars Story - 5/10 - SO LO disappointing! This is the first Star Wars film I've seen since the first three and it doesn't inspire me to watch any of the others. Alden didn't have enough dynamic swagger, Woody's character was just boring, Donald Glover was great but was given nothing to work with - he could have been pulled right out of the movie and it wouldn't have made any difference to the actual plot and I HATED the pilot bot...was Lando supposed to really love her or was that just a joke?

Don't Breathe - 8/10 - I always like Stephen Lang. And this reminds me a lot of another Jane Levy film, I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore. though that film is kinda of funkier.

BlacKkKlansman: probably an 8 but I just saw it last night so that could go up or down as I get a bit of distance from it. It's not the masterpiece that 'Do the Right Thing' was, as I've heard it said that it's Lee's best film since then, but it's definitely very entertaining and everything from the directing to the acting to the score was done well. And it has most of the great Spike Lee-isms like the saturated color and those are always great. I don't remember it breaking the fourth wall, though, like he usually does once or twice in a movie. 'Very good, overall.

Wow. It was that good?

I was very interested but then a lot of the reviews I've read have been less than stellar. I think one of the recurring themes in the reviews was that Kiernan Shipka was playing Sabrina too young.

What's your reaction to that?

"Kiernan Shipka was playing Sabrina too young." Um...?  Huh?  Not sure what that means.  She played the character like a teenager in high school.  I have never read any of the Archie Comics ... so I don't have any context to compare it to.

She also plays the character in a far more emotionally complex fashion than Melissa Joan Hart in the sitcom version of the show (not that I've seen a single episode but a scattering of clips from the Nickelodeon series.

Sucker Punch - 7/10 - Another one of those "wanted to like it but..." - loved the music, the visuals, the IDEAS, but it just didn't come together. Sound like from the Trivia that the studio had different plans for it than Zack Snyder did. A big thing that bothered me was that Baby Doll was supposed to be this epic, mouth-dropping dancer, but we never actually saw her dance, since all her dances turned into fantasy sequences (outside of the main fantasy of "the club").

Finally gotten around to experiencing the daymare that's Mac and Me (1988).  A fitting start to season two of Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return (TV Series 2017– ).

Join me in trying to survive the terror that is The Gauntlet!

Just finished (a rewatch) watching the greatest Black Friday commercial on Youtube:
The entire The Lego Movie (2014) [10/10] movie before getting around to watching How to Critique | The Art Assignment | PBS Digital Studios Youtube episode.  Still haven't watched that art history video yet (enjoying the Lego Movie credits... now on an acoustic cover of Everything is Awesome).

Tonight:
Trucker's Woman (1975), 1/10.  A film so frakking boring that even the Rifftrax commentary could barely make it watchable (a 9/10 for their effort).
