Becky: Can you provide a link to an example? IMDb does use roman numerals in parentheses after a person's name to distinguish between two or more people with the same name. For example, the Jennifer Lawrence of The Hunger Games fame is Jennifer Lawrence (III), because there are other people in the database with the same name.

However, as can be seen at https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2225369/mediaviewer/rm2238815489, for example, IMDb does not use those roman numerals in many photo captions. If there are photo captions where those roman numerals are used, I would have to see an example to explain what they mean.

I see the numerals in captions in the app (iPhone).

Becky: With Peter's screen shot and the first paragraph of my response above, you should have your answer. I use the desktop version of IMDb, so that page looks like this to me:

Note that in my version, it just says Jennifer Lawrence, not Jennifer Lawrence (III). As I mentioned above, there are other people named Jennifer Lawrence in the database, and the famous one is the one with the roman numeral III assigned to her.

I would recommend that the IMDb staff try to make the user experience consistent between desktop users and app users, so that both versions should say "Jennifer Lawrence" or both should say "Jennifer Lawrence (III)", not have one use the roman numeral and the other not.

How about inheriting a lower roman numeral that is not in use?
It should be able to be reassigned when you have been proven to have maintained a high ranking in STARmeter for a predetermined time period.
Jennifer should become (I).
I have been 3rd or 4th listed Ed Jones by popularity for over a year.
Would like an upgrade! Just dreaming!!! Being 49th is a lonely place....
