Using Watchlist as a watching record

Is it reasonable to use the IMDB watchlist as a long term way to record what movies I have watched?

I am currently adding every film I've watched on it and concerned that at some time I'll lose data. Is there any consequence to having 3,000 and growing titles on the watchlist?

I just want to make sure this is an intended use, because I'm investing time in it.

I would keep a custom list instead.
The Watchlist has other uses that having a large number of titles there would make awkward. One example: after doing a search, the Watchlist is the only list to which you can add titles directly from the search results page(s).
The Watchlist page has a Create List link, and more can be learned about keeping a custom list here:
Lists FAQ
It's fairly easy to transfer your existing titles to the custom list, by moving 1 edit page of 250 titles at a time.

Please note: whether you continue to use the Watchlist, or use a custom list, the maximum number of titles for any list is 10,000. Another good reason to move the titles to a custom list now.

I just rate all the movies I’ve seen, they flag as watched and you don’t have them on a watchlist. Then it curated what you like from those votes!
