Jan 3 2018 update: we have now officially turned off old service calls so please make sure you are on the most recent version of the app!

Original post for details:

On Dec 4th, we released several critical updates to the IMDb app. v8.3 is now available in the App Store.  Please upgrade as soon as possible to ensure that all of the app features continue to work as expected.

If you are using an older version of the app, you may experience missing content and errors, particularly on features such as lists, reviews, and news. Anyone on a device that uses iOS 9 device or above is eligible to upgrade.  We no longer support iOS versions 8 and below. Please use www.imdb.com if you have a device that is no longer supported.  Thanks for your continued support of IMDb.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled IMDb app on iPad showing Network Error for user reviews and not saving ratings.

Everything seems to work fine, until I click the ratings star to view user ratings. The dialog pops up, but stays blank. After a little while a Network Error prompt appears asking to hit ok/retry. Retry doesn't help.

Also, saving my own rating does't work. It says Saving Rating, and after maybe 10 seconds, the notice disappears, leaving the ratings dialog on screen with a grayed out Save button and not having actually saved my rating.

I don't have either of these issues on my Android device on the same wifi network. I have killed and restarted app several times and my timezone and date&time are set correctly.

This started after the last IMDb app update.

Hi Youri, can you confirm whether or not you have updated to the latest version of the iOS app (8.3)?

Hi Jess,
Thanks for your reply. Let me start by saying I have automatic updates disabled so I can check out changelogs before I update any apps. I absolutely remember updating the IMDb app on my iPad4 last month, I remember the changelog text about the iPhone X, that was version 8.2. I don't actually remember updating to 8.3.
However, since you asked I decided to double check and realized I could not see my current installed app version in the app store as it just shows the latest version available, so I looked inside the app in About and to my utter disbelief it shows version number 6.18.1. But I definitely saw IMDb in my updates tab in the app store a month ago and updated!!?
I removed the app and reinstalled, and app store prompted, as expected, latest version is not compatible and if I wanted to install the last compatible version. I ended up with 6.18.1 again.
I'm on iOS 8.4 and I realize it's quite old, but that's what I'm stuck with.
In any case, the IMDb app worked completely fine for me up until 3-4 weeks ago.

That makes sense, thanks for the information. In December we had to release several critical updates to the app, and unfortunately can no longer support iOS 8. That old version will work for basic browsing of movies and shows but for the full feature set we recommend using IMDb on your browser. Sorry for the inconvenience but the upgrades were necessary.

This is ridiculous. I may quit using IMDb altogether. Until just this week, I was able to simply rate something on the app. Now I can't, and I just find that to be ridiculous. Why screw people with a lower iOS out of the simplest of tasks! (Rating titles, adding and removing from lists, etc.) Don't take something away, add something that the lower iOS' can't use. I don't care if you add new features that require an app update that I can't do, I just don't want to be locked out of doing the second most important thing on IMDb! (The first is having a database!) Using the browser version on my mobile is really awful, and way less user friendly than the app. But, if you're not going to fix this, and I have to keep using that, I'll make do. But I have such a high amount of respect for IMDb as a whole, (it's in my Top 5 most used apps on my phone, I checked my usage!), that I figured I'd at least give them a chance to fix this. If you won't fix this, and I have to use the browser, it's very heavily increasing my chances of not using IMDb at all. Sorry for being like this, but I think that I'm being fair. If you respond, thanks for the response! If you read this whole thing, thanks for reading!

I just think it's silly that I can't rate something on the app anymore, and have to go to the browser!

Quick little update: my grandmother has cancer, and not being able to fully use the IMDb app anymore, literally is worse than that. Need to fix this ASAP.

We are sorry to hear about your situation.  Unfortunately we are unable to restore access to the old systems which powered earlier versions of the app (see https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/upcoming-changes-to-several-imdb-features-du6man1opd5q0).  The hardware and software no longer exist, sorry.

If the age of your phone prevents you from upgrading to a supported version of iOS, and therefore a supported version of the IMDb iOS app, please use the IMDb mobile web site should work on any iPhone.  It is located at http://m.imdb.com/

For more information please see https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/mobile-web-apps/imdb-mobile-site/GQN2XBEU8UM9PZ8T

Hi Aaya, are you using the most recent version of the app? If you are, and still can’t view the Parents’ Guide, could you give us a couple of examples of movies or shows where you are unable to find it. Thanks!

When I try to save the rating (number of stars) I get an error message, saying Network Error. But the Internet connection is fine and I've been doing this for years on the iPad. Message says AppServiceGone

Hi Amy, what version of the IMDb app are you using?  And can you describe what problem you are having? Is it still the crash when you try to start the app? I see a post above that Col responded to but I don't think we heard back on the app version.

Well, it hasn't been working for about a month even though I had reloaded the app several times. After getting your question, I tapped on it to see if I could see anything before it crashed and suddenly it loaded. I've tried it again and again and it's fine. Sorry for my snarkiness. I do like the app and use it often and will continue to. Thank you.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Want to reinstall old ios app version.

I was having problems with my IMDb app on my IOS 6.1.6 version iPod, so I decided to delete it and then reinstall. Now it says I need to update to IOS 9 to get it back, but my iPod is too old to do that. I just want to be able to redownload the old compatible version. ITunes 12.7 doesn't let you look at past app versions.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled App no longer connected to imdb.com.

I have been using the app with below device information for quite some time, but recently it is not connected to IMDB.com for film description pages nor news nor incoming film release dates, although showtimes still works. I am just wondering if this is an app-wise problem or if there is any way to fix the issue I am facing. Additionally, there is no longer an option to login with Google and my correct email and password do not work even when selected option to login with IMDB.

(It has always been working fine till about 1.5 weeks ago)

My device information:
- iPhone5,1
- iPhone OS 6.1.4
- IMDb v3.4.2
(Latest available for my phone and system)

Thank you.
