uncredited performers

  • Not a Problem

IMDb has a rule: a cast/crew member needs to have at least one credited entry in the database before his/her uncredited work will be listed in IMDb.

Why are so many people without any on-screen credits, in any movie, able to be listed in IMDb?

And why is it so hard to delete these entries? And why, when deleted, are they able to be added back so easily? It would be nice if some of these deletions were permanent since many of these folks aren't ever getting an on-screen credit.

IMDb is apparently unaware that people are adding in performers/crew in one step and then adding in the word "uncredited" as an attribute in a later step,  thereby sidestepping any IMDb safeguards. Bottom line: IMDb should add in new software to take care of this problem. It wouldn't be that hard to do.

Some examples of uncredited-only performers/crew that have lingered forever:

1)  Adult film actress Tomi La Roux (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0478994/reference)

2)  Adult film actress Lyn Cuddles Malone (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0540461/reference)

3)  Actor Fred Newman (II) (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0628092/reference)

4)  Director/Writer Arnold Stevens (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0828244/reference)

Here's hoping IMDb will come up with a fix. It would certainly save me a lot of grief.

In some cases, they get added, the eventually get suppressed.  People are always here asking what happened/why did their  credits disappear and the answer is usually, they were "uncredited" and they don't have any "credited" work listed yet.

Also, in your examples, for films in the 60's/70's, the exception to the rule may have been applied.  The guideline states:

You need to have at least one pre-existing credited entry in the database. We will not display filmographies consisting exclusively of uncredited work. We may make an exception in very rare/specific circumstances (e.g. on films released before 1990...

Thanks for your response. Where did you get that guideline quote? I went to Actors and Actresses Guide then to Cast attributes: Uncredited. It states: "Please note that a cast member needs to have at least one credited entry in the database before we will list their uncredited work". I didn't see any mention of "films released before 1990."

As bluesmanSF correctly explained, the 'no uncredited filmographies' rule is not strictly applied to older credits, for the simple reason that on older titles uncredited performers/contributors (even in significant roles) were very common. We are much stricter on all-uncredited filmographies for contemporary work, because film credit listings are substantially more detailed and extensive these days.

Are you stating that those 4 credits are wrong, or that they shouldn't be listed because they are uncredited and the person doesn't have any other billed entries? If the former, please submit a deletion and someone will definitely take a look; if the latter, they should stay as they are all for entries dating back to the 1960's/1970's, so they are covered by the above-described exception.

Re:

"Where did you get that guideline quote?"
I knew, right after I posted it, I should have included the page...sorry.

If you type into the Help Search "uncredited" you get a list of FAQ's including:

I worked on a film but did not receive a screen credit. Can I be listed in the database?

Excellent. Thanks!

IMDb should have put that information in Cast Members: subset Actresses and Actors: subset Cast Attributes: Uncredited. I wouldn't have needed you.

I'll pass the word on to my fellow databasers.
