unable to submit 3 specific updates for 3 episodes of a mini-series

Hello. I am unable to submit 3 separate and specific updates for 3 episodes of a mini-series.  The type of update concerns the section "Series Cast - These people are regular cast members.  Were they in the episode?".  They were submitted in mid-January originally, but have not been dealt with.  (A few other corrections I submitted for that series were all accepted promptly.)   Ideally I would like to resubmit them, however I encounter a queer problem insofar as I can recheck the updates and press submit, yet then they "cycle", instead of confirming that the updates have been submitted, I get a page saying that my updates are ready for submission with a new yellow submit button, this simply repeats itself if I press submit again.  If I take the route "save for later", then go into the update via its link, I come onto a screen offering me the different sections that I can update, but with my changes no longer there.  Could somebody help?  Thank you.

Dale: Can you provide the title of the miniseries and the names involved, so other contributors can try testing the submission and see if they get the same problem?

Sure. Thank you for your reply.

The mini-series is "Camomile Lawn" @ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1251081/combined

lower down on episode 1 for example in the  - "These people are regular cast members. Were they in this episode?" segment ....  I put "no" to all 3 series/cast members there as they were not in episode 1 - thereafter I get the mentioned problem. I get the same issue in that segment on the pages for episodes 3 and 4. So far only episode 2 out of all 4 is complete/correct. Thank you.

Dale: I could be wrong about this, but I think that answers of "No" to "These people are regular cast members. Were they in this episode?" are basically ignored by the software. The software does pay attention to "Yes" answers to that question, but not to "No" answers.

If I'm wrong about this, hopefully someone will correct me.

But if I'm right, then you can and should just disregard the "
Were they in this episode?" section if everyone left there was not in the episode.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Thank you for your reply.

I agree, yes answers (as well as mixed answers) do not "cycle" in this way and are of course accepted.

For submissions that contain only "no" answers I thought it could be something like this as you said - the software, but I feel it could have only been recently introduced if it so, as previously I was able to submit this sort of update (they certainly didn't cycle in this way), I went back to check and saw that some have been also accepted and the page had been cleaned up properly in this way, so I was surprised to see this now is not accepted, hence my post here.

It's a pity since a further "issue" that arises from these imperfections remaining on episode pages is that on individual actors' pages who are listed in this way, the indication "unknown episodes" remains until all of the various yes and no answers have been filled in, submitted and accepted!

For series which have hundreds of episodes, I have found examples of actors under the segment "were they in this episode?" on episodes which were aired even years (and in some cases decades!) before the actor in question has been born or when it was impossible for the actor to have played the part, i.e. listed as "delivery man", when at the time the episode aired, the actor would still have been a child or a baby. It is a pity that there is not some way of cleaning these things up somehow, possibly even better so if in one "swoop".
Are cast credits still accepted at a general series level for long-running series? Just one submission could result in literally hundreds of necessary manual corrections (if ever accepted!) thereafter!

Series credits for cast and crew are currently only accepted when creating a new title (as they are needed for verification), but once an Episode has been created, no more Series level credits are accepted.

As I said, usually credits copied to an Episode will disappear from the Series page. If this hasn't happened in a month after the credit appears, there is another option.

You can go to the series page and request a delete for each credit that is now on an Episode.  You can tell which ones are not copied as the Series credit will show (unknown episodes) rather than the number. There appears to be only one: commissioning editor Peter Ansorge.

I don't know why the other three crew members are showing up in the Were they in this episode list? because they are already listed with the same occupation in all 4 episodes, so they should be excluded from this section. (This might be a further bug in the system, similar to the 'No' items creating a null update.)

The four characters might need to be manually deleted anyway, since the Character does not match the Character in the Episode.

If there has been 3 or 4 weeks since these people showed up in the Episodes, I would recommend submitting Delete requests to the Series page for all 7.

The Explanation is critical. I would use  something like :
This credit has been moved to the correct Episodes, but not deleted from the Series page, so it should now be removed.

I am not sure how you should handle the Peter Ansorge credit.

I just checked the system, and it appears that they have removed the back end of the Migrate system - the part that creates the formatted data from what was entered in the form.

If you click on [Click to see full summary]  with a 'No' selected for the first credit, you should see something like :
Cast - Delete

Name: Dale, Ellis
Character: Post Office Clerk
Explanation: Episode migrate
Instead, the Full Summary is empty, and the system, very properly will neither Submit nor Save an empty update.

This section is a hold-over from the implementation of Full Episode Support (FES). Originally IMDb only recorded the Series, not the Episodes, entering Guest cast onto a single Guest Cast page for each Series, although those included in longer arcs might be added to the main Series Cast list.

When they implemented FES, they added the Were they in this episode? section to the Episode pages. Basically this lists anyone in the Series Filmography who is not currently in the equivalent Episode list.

A 'Yes' copies the credit to the Episode. A 'No' was supposed to be processed, removing the name from the Were they in this episode? Section. I believe it was also supposed to remove the credit from the Series page when it had been selected (either way) in all Episodes. However, the 'No' processes were never implemented, and these requests are not processed. Instead of checking that a Series credit has been processed for each episode, they now delete it from Series once it has been added to Episodes. (I think that adding to a single episode will do this, but the routine does not run after every update, so the credit may stick around for several days after it is in an Episode.)

I strongly recommend ignoring this section entirely. It gives you no advantage over the main update forms, and just adds to confusion.

Note that for Episodes, if you click on the text Click here to copy existing credits from the series or other episodes at the top of the Add portion of an update form, it will open a javascript control that not only lets you copy from the Series page, but from a Season or Year. This can be handy if you are adding credits to an episode after all the original credits were removed from the series, or if you are working on a later season where the Order number and/or Character number has changed, or a different crew has taken over in some sections.

I think that this section may have been removed (as I haven't seen it in ages), but snuck back in on an update - minus the actual submit functionality. A number of us requested the removal many times in the past, but it wasn't done for the longest time (and if it finally was it was not announced.

Hopefully, Staff will check this thread and fix the page. Until then, as I said just ignore the section.
