I am a self proclaimed filmaholic, and I thoroughly enjoy using your IMDB app, it's very well put together, and I applaud you on its ease of use.

I do however have a very small but yet also very impactual niggle to the enjoyment of your application. This being that from the offset of downloading the app I was able to enjoy the clarity and cinematic beauty of your trailers on my newly purchased Huawei P20 mate pro (not sure if this info is critical to the plot) making full use of its 6.39 OLED display, and being truly enveloped by your application as I got lost down the rabbit hole of endless procrastination and loving every second.
This however all came crashing down like a nearby helicopter in a Bruce Willis film, on the realisation that now when I click on a trailer to watch it, and have moved the (slightly annoying) 'info/what's next' tab out the way, I'm left with a video which is nowhere near the size of which I had become acostomed, the black margins a sad reminder of what once was.

Whether or not this is an issue which has a solution?, I'm hoping you might be able to help me with that... But it means enough for me to write you this email, and it does lessen my desire to use your app, perhaps others may be experiencing this also.

I also am aware trailers/films can be filmed in widescreen aspect ratios etc, but either way it's always missing a fair chuck of screen both horizontally and virtically with those pesky nogood black margins.

As mentioned they weren't there beforehand? Which adds to the mystery, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling your app to no avail.

I would very much appreciate any help or advice you could provide on this issue.

Fin.

Many Thanks
Russell

Hi Russell,

Firstly, thank you for providing this feedback about the trailer viewing experience on the IMDb app. Our engineering team has confirmed that they will be implementing changes in the near future to reduce the amount of space that is added around videos for devices with aspect ratios like yours. They have also confirmed that this issue does not occur for any IMDb TV content, but may occur for some other videos like trailers, clips, etc.

Please let us know if we can offer any further help.

Hi Claire,

Thank you for your help with this issue, and yes actually I have just watched a couple of your TV content/trailers and you're correct they do fill the screen (top to bottom) leaving only slight margins on the sides (to be expected). As a suggestion, YouTube have integrated a two figure motion gesture into their app recently meaning you can fill your entire screen, you do crop the video ever so slightly, but i feel for alot of people, myself included, this would be a desirable addition to your app.

I forward to your updates :)

Thanks again
Russell
