Top TV Shows

Hi. I just came here to suggest one thing that I think would be very useful and simple to add to the website.

I love movies, but I'm more of a TV show kind of guy. So, basically, what I would love to have featured on IMDb is a Top 250 (or 100, or 200, or whatever...) but only including TV shows. If movies have it, I don't see why TV shows shouldn't.

Well, I hope I'm not just repeating an idea previously thrown that simply isn't possible, but if so, I apologize in advance.

I really hope that IMDb can include this. It would make my experience on the website much better and I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking it. Thank you for your time.

Regards.

There is a point on IMDB were you move beyond the ready-rolled solutions and you then roll your own.

So on the current menu you have popular TV and movies:

http://www.imdb.com/search/title?coun...

This isn't very helpful, until you notice that the "title_type" includes feature films and TV series (I have asked for separate links to be re-instated), snip out the feature films from that and you are looking at a list more useful for your needs:

http://www.imdb.com/search/title?coun...

However, this is not that flexible (I have asked for changes here too) and you really need to go back to the main page generating these results:

http://www.imdb.com/search/title

This is where you can move onto becoming a Power User and here you can generate custom searches, bringing us back to your suggestion - so this is, for our purposes a Top 250 of TV series:

http://www.imdb.com/search/title?coun...

Hmm, there are still some oddities (low numbers of votes) in there, so we throw on a quick minimum vote filter:

http://www.imdb.com/search/title?coun...

And there you have it, but don't let me constrain what you look for change the minimum vote if you want, filter for genre or country of origin, etc.

Thank you! The last link on your answer would be close to what I'm suggesting. And although it shows me what I want to see, I still think it would be more practical for the public in general to have it somewhere on the front page, just like the films' top 250. That is what I was aiming for, even though I'm not sure the administrators of the website have access to my suggestion. Nevertheless, I appreciate your help and will definitely remember how to do it myself, for now on.

Oh, and I'm sorry for any mistakes I might have given, but I'm not a native speaker.
Thank you ;)

Couldn't see anything wrong with it myself ;)

Oh I'd be fine with them having a link on from the Top 250 films, or top TV series, but you can only do so much hand holding - even the most popular TV series link generates questions from people why a specific TV mini-series isn't listed, even though the clue is in the question (they are listed separately).

I'd prefer seeing a way to allow people to transition smoothly to using the advanced title search, so perhaps linking into top TV series (as there is in the menu bar), with better filtering options in the sidebar:

I'm not sure the administrators of the website have access to my suggestion.

There are plenty of staff around, including The Boss, and I assume every thread gets read by a number of them, so this has been seen by staff.

Wow, the The Boss? He/She seems important. Hope he/she reads this topic too, in that case.

Anyway, thank you so much for your help ;)

I'm sure he'd be humble about his importance (he is British after all) but he is signed up here and occasionally drops in. Crucially there are also members of staff who deal with such matters on GetSatisaction too and they do pick up suggestions on here, so it is always worth posting such suggestions.
