Theatrical films shown with TV ratings prominently displayed

I searched for the list of the most voted films of 1973 ...

http://www.imdb.com/search/title?at=0...

and noticed that while most of the films involved have their MPAA rating displayed as part of the list (G, PG, R, X), a few have their television rating displayed. For example, The Exorcist is shown as TV-14, and so is The Sting, instead of their theatrical MPAA ratings of R and PG respectively.

(I am in the United States; if you're in a different country, you may see your own country's ratings indicated on this list instead of the MPAA/U.S. television ratings.)

I believe that in any circumstance where IMDb displays only one certificate/rating for a made-for-theatrical release film, the one rating shown ought to be the theatrical rating, because that reflects the film's original release.

gromit82, I agree that the theatrical MPAA ratings should take precedence in the US. It really looks odd to have the MPAA/US television ratings shown for The Exorcist and The Sting.

I'm bumping this thread due to a lack of response from the staff. Thanks to Dan, Sienel, and the Emperor for their support.

And once again I'm bumping this thread. I've received no staff response to this thread after nine months. In addition to the people I thanked before, thanks also to Steve Crook for his support.

It has now been 10 months since this thread began, and there has been no acknowledgment of the problem from the staff yet.
