The meaning of controversial is: 'the subject of intense public argument, disagreement, or disapproval'. Which movie (no documentaries) do you think is the most controversial?

My list: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls095785043/

i really love your list hoekkie....great choices that may have never come to mind otherwise...well done...

and for that...my vote goes to bonnie and clyde...people forget it was one of the first films where you actually rooted for the bad guys to win...nowadays that's common place...back then not so much....

Hoekkie,

One of the films on your list is considered an adult film.
The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence) (2011)

When you compare:
https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?adult=include&lists=ls095785043
https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?adult=exclude&lists=ls095785043

You will notice that Human Centipede is excluded when filtering out adult titles.

In its current state, your list may not be viewable by people who prefer not to see adult titles. I'm not certain what will happen if you poll were to go live. I will have to ask the IMDb technical staff about this matter.

Hoekkie,

The IMDb editorial staff asked the volunteer poll administators to have discretion in the kind of polls that we select to go live. Since children can access IMDb, IMDb by default does not allow a user to view adult titles unless they are logged in and specifically set the account to view adult titles.

At one time, people could not view a list with adult titles unless they elected to view adult titles. I'm not certain whether such list are currently blocked.

Likewise, at one time once IMDb detected that a list contained an adult title, the title would remain blocked even if the adult title was deleted from the list. That is why I did not specifically ask you to delete Human Centipede from your list. It's possible that you may need to make a new list.

I posted a thread asking IMDb staff to address this issue:
Attention IMDb Staff: Are user created lists with adult titles blocked?

Thanks for the information and Thanks for asking the IMDb staf.
I think you mean the title Deep Throat. The Human Centipede seems not to be an adult movie, and this one is still viewable in your second list.
I am Curious (Yellow) is also an adult movie I think, and is also viewable in your second list.

I forgot to add ‘poll suggestion’, maybe you can add this for me?
I will wait for answer and I can make a new list if necessary.

Hoekkie, I've just noticed another thing... Deep Throat (1972) has photos/covers which are usually strictly prohibited with adult titles. I understand that this might be a special case, but still...

Or covers are eligible for inclusion in adult titles, given that they meet the criteria of inclusion in the first place?..

Hoekkie,

I stand corrected: Deep Throat (1972) is the restricted title.

I've updated the title of this thread at your request to:

I removed Deep Throat (1972) and I Am Curious (Yellow) (1967) because they are adult films. Maybe my poll wouldn't go live with these titles or it will be disapproved by IMDb.
I replaced them for Chernobyl Diaries (2012) and Midnight Cowboy (1969).
I don't know what's controversial about Joker so I didn't add this one.

'Great poll and great list! I'd probably say 'The Birth of a Nation.'

I'd suggest citing your source for the definition (since you're quoting it word- for word) and two small edits: (below in bold)

According to _______, the meaning of controversial is "the subject of intense public argument, disagreement, or disapproval."

('No need for the colon and the other punctuation should be quote marks, not what are sometimes referred to as single quote marks, which are for a quote within a quote.)

: )

(If this goes live first, feel free to request a repush, of course, if you want to edit the intro.)
