Live Poll: Directors on an Impossible Mission

When Tom Cruise began the Mission: Impossible films, he went in a different direction than he ever had before. This was the first time he had ever appeared in sequels. Also, as he said in an interview, "I began producing the films with the goal that a different director with his own vision would make each one." After making five M:I with five disparate directors, perhaps Cruise feels that he completed his goal, as for the first time a director will be making a second film in the series. Christopher McQuarrie, who made the fifth film, is also directing the sixth installment.

Based on their entire careers, which of the first five M:I directors do you think has had the best career?

Pretty good set of directors, although I hated number II and never saw another one. Got to go with De Palma.

Do you think De Palma's failures are overshadowed enough by his sucesses?

Brad Bird. And it would be a very timely poll.

I dont think he has to be ashamed of Tomorrowland, its not a strong film but it ain't bad either.

Besides being a box office winner, the film entered the top 250

You could add the new film in the McQuarrie entry as well. Perhaps also clarify that he was the writer (not director) of The Usual Suspects and The Mummy?

Carrie is also a career's highlight for De Palma, a critically-acclaimed horror classic with two Oscar nominated performances. And even De Palma's failures had style... so I would vote for him anytime.

I picked the highlights based on the IMDb "popularity" but Carrie could have gone on there too.

I don't get the option: "should be ashamed of". I would pick Brad Brid, but wouldn't think he should be ashamed of 'Tomorrowland'. I did like that movie. If I pick that option, I would agree, that 'Tomorrowland' is shaming stuff. I don't think so, even if I would pick Bird for the main matter.
