Spurious very early credits for some 1904 Edison movies

There are some very dubious credits - probably recent additions - for 1904-5 Edison films.
Early because it's 1904 and also because some of the persons involved who hadn't started their film careers yet.

Some examples -
Title: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0231758/
Person: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000856/

This film is legally online (firmly in public domain due to age). Now, it's completely unclear what these uncredited supposed appearances are based on. At this time in film history, there are no credits known on-screen or through publications. And as you can see, there's very little details of any face visible in these longshots. We're lucky to discern a nose or eyes for 1 second. It's also rather unlikely that all of these barely discernible ladies would all start film careers - decades later.

More of the same problem: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0231549/fullcredits?ref_=tt_ov_st_sm

So far it seems to happen mostly to Edison films directed by Edwin S. Porter. Is something going on here that can be traced back to any one misguided user?

Hi Uberhamster -

Thanks for your report of these two titles.  Since the cast members are not easily discernible in the film, I have now removed the cast credits until we receive a valid source that confirms them. Cheers!

Thanks both of you. Btw. sadly there are a few others exactly like this. Because this thread was marked as "solved" I opened a new one for those: https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/spurious-very-early-credits-for-some-1904-edison-movies-part...

Someone's been very keen on watching surviving early Edison shorts and identifying the cast. A bit too keen...
