Forgive me if this already exists and I missed it. But I think it would be nice to narrow down name searches by credit type, ie. directors only, actors only, etc. This could be useful for finding new directors and their work or for industry people to find actors or others to work with. Also maybe like how there is a list for all people born in a certain year, there could be a list of all directors, one of all actors, DPs, etc. ranked by star meter. That could be cool for finding new people and their work.

In IMDbPro, searching by job is available.

For other searches you mention, there is "advanced search," in which you can, for example, create a list of people born in a year adding other data to be included/excluded:

People born in 1972 by starmeter http://www.imdb.com/search/name?birth_date=1972-01-01,1972-12-31&sort=starmeter,asc

To locate name or title "advanced search," change the "all" at the search box to "advanced search."

I think I get what you mean about the birth year list, but I was just using that as an example for possibly making separate lists, like a list of all directors, a list of all actors, all DPs, etc. To browse a giant list of people within a certain credit type would be cool for finding new people and their work.
