I've noticed many artists now have roman numerals in parenthesis after their name. How is this achieved?

If two or more people have the same name, the Roman numerals are used to distinguish them.

For more details see:
What's the deal with those Roman numerals, like (I) and (II), after people's names?

Same thing, by the way when you see them in titles, after the year. If there are two films with the same title, released in the same year, the titles (same as with names) are kept unique to keep credits separated accurately, by adding Roman numerals. So, if you and I both make, "Titanic II" to be released in 2014, they'll say Titanic II (2014/I) and Titanic II (2014/II).
