Review bombing and fake ratings

It's obvious that people are review bombing the new Batwoman TV show:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8712204/reviews?ref_=tt_urv

Why do you let things like this happen? What the point of having a ratings and review system if you aren't going to do anything about all the spam and fake reviews?

Also, why does this user have duplicate reviews on their profile page?

I've been using IMDb since soon after it launched. I don't understand why you are letting it turn into a piece of trash. And you expect people to pay money to upgrade? If upgrading to IMDb Pro solved this problem, I'd hand over my credit card tonight. But I suspect it doesn't work like that.

I read several reviews from accounts that were 4-7 years old  that rated this a 1/10.
People are allowed there opinions.
Just because you do not agree, does not discount what they believe is awful.
Out of curiosity I watched Ep 1. I would wait and write a review after a few episodes had aired before making any determination. but there are those that can't wait and just have to be first. Based of episode #1 I would give this a 4. I can see why the a lot of people rated this a 1. Forcing an alternative lifestyle into a comic book character created in 1956 will just turn off the purist that would like to see a faithful recreation of of a hallowed character. So they reject the leftist Hollywood re-writing of the character to fit for todays world. And you ask why it is review bombed. You blame IMDb. Please. Blame Hollywood.

There ought to be a law. Don't mess with comic book characters. Stay as close to character as written and you can't go wrong!

Ed Jones (XLIX), while I partially agree with your points, it should be noted that a) Batwoman character from the 50's was very dated and eventually abandoned and b) the modern legacy character of Batwoman is a reimagining which stuck with people and is infinitely more popular than the original 50's character ever was.

Re-imagined versions of popular characters make popular characters themselves in comics. No one should be blamed for that except for people who never read comics since the 50's and now all of the sudden think that character is either a new addition, a version of Batgirl or an updated version of the older 50's character. The latter is partially correct, but... Seriously, is it that hard to at least Google before writing a review "bashing" inaccurate portrayal? So far it's probably one of the most literally adapted characters out of the CW Arrowverse in my humble opinion as a lifelong DC fan who actually read a lot of comics.

It is also impossible to stay true to characters who get reinvented and retconned all tthe time: adapatation of a comic book is always a compromise between different versions.

Not only does that user have duplicates on their profile page, but I find 5 different reviews from them on the title's review page:

https://www.imdb.com/review/rw5190817/?ref_=tt_urv

https://www.imdb.com/review/rw5191054/?ref_=tt_urv

https://www.imdb.com/review/rw5190497/?ref_=tt_urv

https://www.imdb.com/review/rw5187018/?ref_=tt_urv

https://www.imdb.com/review/rw5184155/?ref_=tt_urv

Apparently the duplicates on the user's Activity page are substituting the 13Oct review for each of the others. There are 5 on the user's page for Batwoman (2019). However, when I click the link to see all 65 reviews, and Load More to the end, the 5 reviews appear "correctly". (I use quotes because I wouldn't think 1 user is allowed to make multiple reviews of a title.)

I haven't seen the show, but there could be a chance of some people legitimately disliking the show and writing reviews for them on why they disliked it. But I can see where you are coming from, this is not even the first post regarding this title and the reviews (there had been complaints of the reviews being sexist), and you are right that ratings and quality of reviews (and useful/non-useful votes where there has been an increase in revenge voting) have become more suspect to put it lightly, especially on low budet horror, sci-fi and disaster films. I also share your suspicions on this user. On the previous review layout before it was changed to the present layout, I am sure you were only allowed to write one review and IMDb were stricter on that. Now it seems that reviewers are getting away with a lot that they weren't able to do as much or as easily before. There is more terms and conditions violating than ever before that only seems to be dealt with when reported. I am amazed too that this user has been getting away with what they're doing, these reviews are not what I call reviews (representing everything I hate about most reviews today) and it is even more amazing that they have garnered any useful votes. People seem to only read the rating and review summary and click on the yes button without really reading the content of the review. Plus I think too that it is too early days to be reviewing the show as an overall whole without giving it a fair enough chance, it would be fairer to review individual episodes first and then review the overall show when it's far enough into the run to judge it fairly. Just my thoughts though, hope enough is not too irrelevant.

Of course there are legit reviews. I didn't actually like the show, either, and left a review.

But it's obvious that many people are simple abusing the system if you look at what they're saying and look into their history.

I did notice that user had two different reviews, so that does seem like a bug in the user profile. But still, why is one people allowed to spam the same title with 5 reviews? It's silly.

These people are destroying a great resource and no one seems to care. I used to participate more in the IMDb community, but not much anymore. It's pointless putting effort into anything when it's being shouted over by 4chan idiots etc.

Make them do 250 word reviews and this gets all but eliminated. Blame IMDb for their 50 Character (Not Words) Rule.
50 measly characters, that's all!!!! This is more than 50 just on this line!
How can that be acceptable? Answer: It's not!

I totally agree with Ed on this one. This thread might be of interest for those who care about user reviews: https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/idea-make-sure-reviews-are-reviews-again-minimum-of-50-words...

Justin,
I cross-posted this information here:

and got a response from IMDb.
They care, it's just complicated. Please see the 2 replies from Michelle.
