Release Date: online versus Export is different

When I Export a Title List, and sort by Release Date, I get a different result than when I use the Sort feature on either the View List (VL) or Advanced Title Search (ATS); those 2 agree.

I find that when a title has its earliest release date as an incomplete date (no day, sometimes no month either), then Export handles it differently than VL&ATS: Export now assigns the day 01. (I'm sure it didn't do that previously. I remember seeing incomplete dates in Exports.)

I don't object to the assignment of a day; it saves me from having to do it.

But it's not achieving the same sort result as VL and ATS. So it should probably assign the last day of the month. (A much more painful process, to be sure. Is that what VL&ATS do?)

You can view my test list here:
https://www.imdb.com/list/ls023799883/?sort=release_date,asc&st_dt=&mode=detail&page=1
It was created in VL release date order. Titles 16-20 and 34-40 have comments about Export's Release Date versus the earliest on the RD page. Titles 19, 39 and 40 have the incomplete dates, and therefore sort differently.

Another interesting result: #17. Garden of Evil (1954), has an incomplete date at the top of the RD page, but the next RD is in the same month, so Export picked that date instead of the 1st of the month, and that sorted the same as VL&ATS.

I don't know if this is the only cause of differences in sorting by RD. I had a lot of position changes when I sorted my discs this week, too many for it to be actual release date changes since I last did a comprehensive sort 3 years ago. But this time I used the VL&ATS version of RD order; previously I'd used Export.

Hi bderoes,

Our technical team has confirmed that this is now resolved. For any title that doesn't have a full release date, the sorting order will now place the title at the end of the release month or release year, depending on which information is available for the title. This was already the behavior of the Advanced Title Search and List View sorting, and this has been adjusted for the List Export to perform the same way.

Please let us know if we can offer any further assistance.

Fix confirmed, and nicely done. I'm grateful not to have to fill in a complete date to get an Export to sort properly. Thank you!
