Watchlist: Refine by Netflix streaming availability!

Why can't my Watchlist be refined by titles available on Netflix? This has to be the most popular streaming content source! My Watchlist says that I have hundreds of titles available to stream, but almost all of them are available only as paid rentals. I'd like to know what's available in the service for which I've already paid!

I'm afraid that IMDB is a member of the Amazon family of companies, so the instant viewing options will tend to favour sister sites (like Amazon Instants or LoveFilm) or open sites of good standing (the Internet Archive for public domain films - YouTube has a lot of films free to watch, some legitimately uploaded but a lot are illegal, so it'd be unwise to promote such a link), rather than promoting rival services. It is the same way your buying options for home media are the local Amazon site (if one exists) and not any other company selling DVDs or Blu-rays.

The best place to find out what is available on Netflix through IMDB is to check out the various Netflix lists users maintain and you can filter your Watchlist using one of those (you could bookmark that search result for future reference). At least this side of a anti-competition/monopoly legal ruling.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Streaming site optimization.

You guys should consider putting streaming locations on each movie and TV show. Then people wouldn't have to check each streaming site they're subscribed to see if it is on there. In the future, you could create an algorithm that combines every site that people are subscribed to and create recommendations based on that. Just a thought

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled ‘Ways to watch’ ones Watchlist should include Netflix and more.

It is annoying that IMDb refuses to include Netflix as an Watchlist option in ‘Ways to watch’. Sadly, its Amazon ownership prevents IMDb from being the ultimate app. What a shame that money rather than excellence dictates IMDb decisions.
Good options within ‘Ways to Watch’ could make IMDb very powerful and universal. For example, in England, users would love to see BBC iPlayer as another option in ‘Ways to watch’. Shame that IMDb does not seize the opportunity.

Not just England... the whole UK, lol!

I guess they'd need to officially 'partner' with each external source to do this. AFAIUI, in the US listings info is copyrighted too, so you cannot just take the info and add it into your service. Dunno if this is part of the problem or not.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Suggestion: Add Network and Syndication Fields to the Details section.

I would like to see 2 new fields added to the Details section for TV Series:

Network (to display the original Networks that run the series)

Syndication (to display the current Networks where the user can actually watch the series)

Example: Criminal Minds - Network = CBS (current)
Syndication = iOn, USA, Netfilx, Prime, HULU
I'm sure I am not accurate in what I wrote above but hopefully you understand what I am getting at.

As long as it's internationalised. Us peeps outside the US need the same info too. :-|

Hi all!

I created a website (vidchuck.com) which can refine your IMDb watchlist by Netflix availability, Just paste your watchlist URL or upload your exported watchlist.

It works for 50+ different countries. If there's enough interest, I might extend it with other streaming services.

It's still in beta, so if you spot any glitches, please let me know!

WOW, this is brilliantly simple! And works on any list added as CSV, I've tried. Thanks a lot.

Yes adding more services would be excellent.

Presumably it uses your current IP as the searched country? So if one changes their country (via a proxy/VPN) then you'd get results for a different region...is that correct?

Also, it may be useful to add a function to only show available titles. As if the list has thousands on it, going through the few available titles is somewhat cumbersome.

But otherwise 10/10!

Yes, that's correct.

In case your IP is in a country that I don't support (yet), you'll see a warning message. If you don't see a warning message, it means I'm supporting your country.

PS. Thanks for your feedback!

Another tip for Mac users...

Save the webpage as a .webarchive file in Safari, then you can offline it for future reference.

(even QuickLook "cmd+spacebar" on said .webarchive files, can then open tapped-on available titles in Safari, for example.)

Obviously, it'll need re-doing, as and when the available catalogues change over time.
