Meryl Streep is considered the greatest actress of her generation. Streep's twenty acting Oscar nominations are 60% more than any other actor or actress in Oscar history. However, Streep only has one Oscar win the last thirty-four years despite being nominated sixteen times. As the saying goes, if she didn't have bad luck, she wouldn't have any luck at all. Will her unlucky streak continue and never win another Oscar again, which begs the question?

In retrospect, which Meryl Streep performance among her seventeen non-winning Oscar nominated roles is her greatest?

Meryl Streep Award History:
Oscars Movies Best Actress: 20 Nominations, 3 Wins
Globes Movies Best Actress: 30 Nominations, 9 Wins + Honorary Globe

Nice pick, very underrated film IMHO. It always seems to get a lot votes, whenever it is listed as a poll answer option, regardless of the topic.

That seems odd to make it hard for a multitude of users to interact with a poll suggestion to save time for a single of user.

On the contrary, she is lucky, she is nominated every 2 years. But, I think her best performance is... I don't know, I don't think she deserved an oscar for any of these roles.

I would disagree she is lucky, as far as Oscar nominations go. Her talent, range and role selection makes it easy for her to consistently claim a top five spot (Oscar nomination) year in and year out. But, I would agreeĀ  in most years the Oscars makes the right in calling the winner. In other years, it is more debatable and/or more clear-cut Streep was more deserving. In particular, I found her Julia Child portrayal more deserving than Sandra Bullock's Leigh Anne Tuohy performance.

Ignoring her greatest in a generation talent, basic statistics indicates she should have won about five times (not three) with twenty-one nominations, if the award was randomly given alone (one out of five). The fact she falls far short of a random win allocation indicates a statistically improbable outcome and likely bias that suppressed her win total

Also, it seems unlikely as she honed her craft and evolved, she became a worse actress. Most experts agree her acting has gotten better, not worse, yet it is not reflected in her total Oscar wins. She went from winning two out her four first nominations to only winning once out of the next seventeen nominations. The end result both defies logic and is statistically improbable.
