Anything Sherlock!!!!!
Use the Robert Downey Jr film if you like.
I prefer the TV Series Elementary or a close second the Brit series Sherlock, but alas you chose movies. I still like Basil Rathbone as the ultimate Sherlock however!

Maybe Beauty and the Beast? One might even say, it's a tale as old as time...

Suggestion:
Cinderella; first filmed in 1899

You could also add after each option the number of films about it as of the current date.

I was thinking of novels or fairy tales, and The Bible. I know atheist consider it a fairy tale, but billions do not. I can only find two movies based on The Odyssey and the Iliad.

Oh, I see your intention now. Iliad and Odyssey do not have a lot direct film adaptation, but the elements (story, themes, characters) are present in a huge amount of films.
But as for direct adaptations, the New Testament (which is mostly the story of Jesus Christ) has a lot of film/TV adaptations, so I think it should be included. Nothing in your poll suggest whether the 'retold tale' is historical or fictional.
But if you were thinking only of novels and fairy tales, then you should probably note that in the poll's intro.
