I think we need a category for the skeptics/non-affiliated, like Tyrion and Davos. My vote is for them.

Thanks for the help. Great observations, I didn't think of either one of those characters and their stated beliefs. I am not sure it is all that clear what they actually believe in and more sure what they don't. As a general rule, I am opposed to None of the Above options. Usually, there is an option like Brother Ray's Congregation that poll takers can embrace as the least offensive or would fit the bill for those unsure of what to believe in. Beliefs: Universal Outlook Unsure of True God or if They are the Same, Focuses on Bringing Goodness into the World, Pacifism, and Redemption

But, I do have to admit I had a similar thought when posting this, that an other category might be a good idea.

Davos is pretty strong in his beliefs about the Red Woman and on record repeatedly. He could be labeled and headline a Non-Believer Category. But, I am not sure what he believes in otherwise?

Tyrion
is skeptical and a realist about everything and could headline a Skeptics Category, He seems pretty open about his opinions about everything. I am sure he has made some comments about religion, but I can't remember anything specific?

Is there a specific something about religion, either has said that makes you positive about their positions on religion?

I do understand that it's really more of a non-category, so if you don't see a fitting way to include it it's perfectly fine.

Both characters stated their views, multiple times if I'm not mistaken. Though sometimes they can be inconsistent or they change (much like real people and real religions, one of the reasons I like the show).

Davos has gone more on record about it. Though he's mainly expressed opposition to the Lord of Light, he's also rejected the Faith of the Seven, which he was raised with. His primary religious opposition at any given moment is more a matter of circumstance. Though his religious skepticism is consistent, he's also an advocate for freedom of religion.

http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Davos_Seaworth

Here's are some quick quotes:
"You think a fire-god commanded all that? It was Stannis, only Stannis."
"I think mothers and fathers made up the Gods... because they wanted their children to sleep through the night."
"I'm not a devout man, obviously. Seven Gods, Drowned Gods, Tree Gods, it's all the same."

Tyrion however is more complex. He's openly mocked/been critical of religion multiple times in the show and books, but hasn't expressed an explicit rejection of it. According to the wiki, he loosely follows the Faith of the Seven, but only loosely. I think he'd fall into the agnostic-theist category, or "culturally" religious rather than personally religious.
http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Tyrion_Lannister

I don't know what kind of explicit language I can post on these forums though, so the quotes you might have to find yourself. There's at least one listed on that wiki link though.

If you're looking for terms to describe the categories, "atheism" could work for Davos, or if you're looking for something less trigger-inducing (for Davos or Tyrion), religious "apathy", "skepticism", "indifference" or "casualism" might work. The "non-believer" category would work too.

I hope this helps. :)

WOW, thanks for the detailed response.

I agree with your viewpoint on both characters whole-heatedly. I think the writing in the show is excellent and there are lot clues for just about everything, based on various statements characters have made over the series run. I got the same impression on both, except Tyrion might be cynical just almost everything. Usually, he's spot on in his critique at the same time too.

I will check out the GoT wikias for myself, as you advise. The trick as you say is finding a label that works as an option and is accurate. As well as, making sure it fits the scope poll along with an appropriate image that demonstrates non-belief and skepticism.

Thanks again for the feedback, it is much appreciated,

Not sure that's what Agnostics means. Close but not quite.

I wonder if this suggestion will bring up a stink from Evangelicals as kind of blasphemous?

Thanks, I agree a bit imperfect and hard to sum up in one perfect sentence. It is a bit more convincing when to take the sum of Davos's statements that this is the closest match or best fitting example for the category from the show. Davos has openly admitted not know which god is the true god.

Here's are some quick quotes from Davos on the topic: (courtesy of Sparse)
"You think a fire-god commanded all that? It was Stannis, only Stannis."
"I think mothers and fathers made up the Gods... because they wanted their children to sleep through the night."
"I'm not a devout man, obviously. Seven Gods, Drowned Gods, Tree Gods, it's all the same."

Hopefully, the disclaimer (see below) helps head off anyone who might offended ,as it is just an open discussion of how the actions of the characters might be interpreted. A lot goes unsaid and is is never confirmed, purposely on the show. It all is speculative and intended to be one the show's mysteries or subplots or possibly just a ruse for something else.

Note: A few speculative and debatable options have been included to allow poll takers to decide if they qualify. They have been included to allow for individual and more liberal definitions of what constitutes a religion. As well as, whether the limited and not fully explained depicted GoT acts and practices they performed are religious in nature.

I have made some revisions to the poll suggestion. The question now asks poll takers about which group is their favorite. Plus, it asks to some degree which version of the "one true god", an underlying GoT theme/mystery is right. Poll takers will be able vote on which version is the closet to what will be revealed or resolved by series end. Finally, I added a note to accommodate for individual definitions of what constitutes a religion, as well as whether what has been depicted or discussed, fits each persons definition. The question now is less about religion/religious beliefs/practices and more about the competition among these groups.

Revised Poll Suggestion: Do You Have Faith in "Game of Thrones"?
Which "Game of Thrones" religious order, sect, cult or group that worships "the true god(s)" do you most believe in?

SPOILER ALERT: Intended for viewers current through the 2016 season as poll reveals discussed, depicted or backstory details of Game of Thrones religions, orders, sects, cults and groups through Summer 2016.

Thanks, I have seen some, but not all of the special features. I like that one, it did a good job of covering one of the main religions, ?Many Faced God. The show is so complex and so fast-paced it hard to pick up on the details. I find these type of recaps very helpful in both understanding and appreciating the series. I posted your link below for other to watch, if interested.

This is covered in a previous discussion thread, it is an imperfect option, but Atheism and Agnoticism are lumped together in the final option.

Liam Cunningham in Game of Thrones (2011)

Followers: Davos Seaworth

Beliefs/Practices: "I'm not a devout man... seven gods, drown gods, tree gods, it's all the same."--- "I think mothers and fathers made up the gods because they wanted their children to sleep through the night.
