Problem with "(also archive footage)"

In these 2 titles
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0899196/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095949/

I put "(also archive footage)" in the field "Attribute" of some members of the cast, but this attribute, which appears in the edit page of these titles, is not just displayed on the page of the titles themselves, as if it had not been published. I think this is a bug to fix, since on the contrary "(archive footage)" and "(uncredited)" are displayed as expected.

Where the system allows it, I am submitting corrections for the errors you have reported here. List J

However often the required correction is not possible because the system will not allow a correction for another reason. Constant multiple errors and/or warnings appear.

The most common reason for not being able to progress is that the correction is for a character which is on the main series page and since the original (now deemed erroneous) submission was made, the system in the meantime naturally no longer accepts additions or modifications at series level and this must be done at episode level!
However there is not always any data at episode level to work with, so I can't actually get anywhere like this! More often than not there is not a way to get around this or override it.
Frustratingly many of the errors thus will remain as they are on the live page until a workaround is found.

n.b. on List J, I started working on the bottom ones first (those with only a handful of instances). Maybe I'll have more luck with the other end. I'll report back when I have tried a few.

L) (YEAR) OR (YEAR RANGE) IN CREDITS (not counting series level):
L1) Including credits with year range within the character field (some might be correct):
L1a) By name: As far as the actors go on the list of linked names, checking through them in edit mode I indeed find no out of place years in the attribute field, so nothing to correct in that respect.

L1b) By title: The same for these linked titles. No years are in the attributes field, so nothing to correct aside from a sprinkling of 'also archive footage' examples!

L2) Excluding credits with year range within the character field:
L2a) By name: I just have submitted corrections for the 6 erroneous credits.

L2b) By title: I just have submitted corrections for all of the linked titles with erroneous credits.

Hopefully this will get rid of a lot more errors.

Hey, dale79:

Here's an update with data from the current available plain text files (22 Apr 2016) [note that your latest submissions 4 days ago aren't reflected on them yet]. I've added two new listings with interesting nonsensical combinations: (uncredited) & order number (see this related thread); and unneeded (as...) attributes (identical with primary name). Also, I've included another listing of names inspired by a finding while compiling list M1 (see below):

A) (ARCHIVE FOOTAGE) WITH (ALSO ARCHIVE FOOTAGE)
:

         9 Mar: 0 credits

Fuente 22 Apr: 0 credits

B)
(ARCHIVE FOOTAGE) WITH (CREDIT ONLY) :

9 Mar: 10 credits for 10 names in 1 title

Fuente 22 Apr: 2 credits for 1 name in 2 titles

C)
(ALSO ARCHIVE FOOTAGE) WITH (CREDIT ONLY) :

         9 Mar: 0 credits

Fuente 22 Apr: 23 credits for 23 names in 1 title (why are these still being accepted??? EnfadoEnfadoEnfado)

D)
(UNCREDITED) WITH (CREDIT ONLY) :

         9 Mar: 0 credits

Fuente 22 Apr: 0 credits

E) (UNCREDITED) WITH (SCENES DELETED) :
9 Mar: 2 credits for 2 names in 2 titles
Fuente 22 Apr: 2 credits for 2 names in 2 titles

F) (SCENES DELETED) WITH (CREDIT ONLY) :
9 Mar: 14 credits for 14 names in 9 titles
   Fuente 22 Apr: 0 credits

G) (VOICE) WITH (CREDIT ONLY) (excluding titles with animation genre):

J) (VOICE) WITH (ADDITIONAL VOICES) :
9 Mar: 540 credits for 30 names in 61 titles
Fuente 22 Apr: 225 credits for 23 names in 56 titles

K) (UNCREDITED) WITH (AS...) :
9 Mar: 4 credits for 4 names in 4 titles

L) (UNCREDITED) WITH ORDER NUMBER :

C) (ALSO ARCHIVE FOOTAGE) WITH (CREDIT ONLY) :
   9 Mar: 0 credits

22 Apr: 23 credits for 23 names in 1 title (why are these still being accepted???)

Good question. For as long as the system accepts them they will continue to be added and someone has to hoover them up...

Corrections submitted!

E) (UNCREDITED) WITH (SCENES DELETED) :
22 Apr: 2 credits for 2 names in 2 titles
Corrections submitted.

H) (ALSO ARCHIVE FOOTAGE) :
9 Mar: 21,323 credits for 11,590 names in 8,089 titles
22 Apr: 21,533 credits for 11,661 names in 8,192 titles

Very disappointing indeed to see that the overall number is now actually on the rise again. Until imdb removes 'also archive footage' from edit mode as a possible/selectable attribute, the battle is lost, they will continue to appear and the number over time will steadily increase, - thereby keeping a steady flow of nonsensical combinations both possible and probable!
If not, you need someone employed full time to delete them! Nevertheless...

H1) By name: (Those names with huge numbers of credits are difficult to correct in one swoop as the edit page simply times out. From the top 5 names for example I managed to submit just now only 1 name and correct 19 (out of 63) credits.)
H2) By title:
"Dancing on Ice" (2006/I) {Preview Show (#5.1)}: 23 credits.
"RuPaul's Drag Race" (2009) {Countdown to the Crown (#7.13)}: 23 credits.
2013 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards (2013) (TV): 23 credits.
Bag om Robinson ekspeditionen (2003) (TV): 23 credits.
Gigantic Skate Park Tour: Summer 2002 (2002) (TV): 23 credits.
Saturday Night Live in the '80s: Lost & Found (2005) (TV): 23 credits.
The Worlds Greatest Wrestling Managers (2006) (V): 23 credits.
Corrections submitted!

J) (VOICE) WITH (ADDITIONAL VOICES) :
22 Apr: 225 credits for 23 names in 56 titles
Frank Welker: 47 credits.
Alan Oppenheimer: 39 credits.
Keone Young: 17 credits.
John Stephenson (I): 10 credits.
Corrections submitted.

Tress MacNeille: 48 credits.
Frank Welker: 47 credits.
Pages seem to be too large to allow corrections.

K) (UNCREDITED) WITH (AS...) : 22 Apr: 3 credits for 3 names in 3 titles
(the (as...) attribute is attached to the character name in all the cases)
I didn't come across anything in edit mode that could be corrected. They may have been dealt with recently.

L) (UNCREDITED) WITH ORDER NUMBER :
22 Apr: 210 credits for 138 names in 100 titles
Corrections submitted.

O) (YEAR) OR (YEAR RANGE) IN CREDITS (not counting series level):
I've found an error in the SPSS syntax that retrieves results to evaluate this section and the next one; after correcting it, it happens that the real number of entries is much higher than the values obtained previously (strikethrough text) and that attributes I thought were terminated actually weren't.

O1) Including credits with year range within the character field (some might be correct):

O) (YEAR) OR (YEAR RANGE) IN CREDITS (not counting series level):
 O1a) By name:
  • Billy Bush (I): 1,555 credits. Someone might get over 1,500 "Col-points" with just 1 update!!
That is a massive page and trying to update anything on it incurs multiple warnings (due to data having been originally added at series level and this no longer being accepted (even edits/deletes are not possible as far as I can make out) coupled with the fact that episodes have been added for the years in question in the meantime), plus there is the fact that the page simply times out. It is very difficult to correct anything on these sorts of pages as they are so long.

I can submit a handful of corrected credits in one go at the most, which of course may contain within themselves more than 1 edited piece of information, but I have no idea if this is calculated as more than 1 update per credit.

Hello. As soon as some new statistics are available, I would be happy to look at any corrections that need doing for the various bits and pieces, nonsensical combinations (as previously discussed here) as well as any other oddities in the attribute fields that are out of place.
It would be good to see if any more have been eliminated or noticeably reduced since the last statistics (dated 22.4). Thank you for your help.

Fuente 13 May: 21,152 credits for 11,558 names in 8,201 titles
Well at least they haven't increased this time. I have just submitted a few more corrections from this list.

J) (VOICE) WITH (ADDITIONAL VOICES) :
22 Apr: 225 credits for 23 names in 56 titles
Fuente 13 May: 112 credits for 19 names in 56 titles
Just submitted a batch of corrections.

22 Apr: 3 credits for 3 names in 3 titles
Fuente 13 May: 3 credits for 3 names in 3 titles
2 of these don't appear to have anything wrong, 1 can't be corrected as it is locked (despite being wrong)!

Just now submitted corrections for all of these except two which are locked (despite being wrong)!

M) (AS...) IDENTICAL WITH PRIMARY NAME :
22 Apr: 5,045 credits for 2,968 names in 4,796 titles

N) EXTRA WHITESPACE BEFORE COMMA IN PRIMARY NAMES :
        22 Apr: 7 names
   Fuente 13 May: 1 name
Resolved.

O) (YEAR) OR (YEAR RANGE) IN CREDITS
13 May: 17,883 credits (for 5,600 names in 10,330 titles)
16,889 of which are with year range in the character field!
Simply far too many to cope with now, situation out of control. But I am pleased that in the meantime another user is also on the case (at least as far as the years in the attributes field goes).

Editing proves difficult as often many warnings come up.
It would be slightly quicker to edit them from series level, though I understand (from imdb) that this causes problems for imdb as not only does the system not block submissions for duplicate additions (i.e. where the name already appears and the user adds the same name but with a different emission in the character and/or attribute fields), but at the moment there are also technical problems imdb's end with this function.
Even Billy Bush with his 1'555 errors has since the April statistics came out remained barely touched (now 1'511 errors).

P) themselves IN CHARACTER NAME :
I understand from another user that this has in the meantime been taken care of.

Q) SOME RARE ATTRIBUTES IN ACTING CREDITS :
'episode' and 'segment' I understand have been taken care of by another user.
I have submitted corrections for the remaining rare attributes (where links are given). Let's see if they are accepted and the number of these goes down by next time!

Q) SOME RARE ATTRIBUTES IN ACTING CREDITS :
Would it not be wise at this stage to ask imdb formally for the defunct attributes to be removed from the choices available to editors? Otherwise there is the risk that they will reappear and we will be back where we started.

Hey, dale79:

Thank you very much to you for dealing with all this work! Hola. However, sometimes I feel that all these efforts aren't worthwhile LlantoLlanto (I invite anyone to handle and process the text files and see for himself what I mean... Estrellas). Despite your deletions, IMDB keeps on accepting entries with a combination of attributes that should be quickly detected by the data managers; I can't believe that they don't have additional warning messages triggered by some nonsensical combinations... (even worse would be if they had them and decide to disregard them... but I don't want to think so). Recently I reported that 900 titles have duplicate (verbatim) plot summaries and I struggled with the ungrateful text format for several hours to get and post those results (the post has been ignored, by the way...). I don't know if IMDB has the time to do such analysis (I offered to publish the comprehensive list of titles in order to clean the data), but I'm sure that anyone who'd care about the consistency and quality of data at least would appreciate it... There is also very interesting info that can't be retrieved via the available-for-users tools (e.g. #1, #2, #3, #4...)... It's another way of contributing... with three downsides: 1. you don't earn "Col-points" (this doesn't matter at all to me... I don't work in the industry so I barely use Pro); 2. you invest much more time than in "usual" contributions auditing titles; 3. sometimes you feel a bit alone... I've never heard of any other person who downloads the text files and wastes his time in processing them simply to report issues that might improve the quality of our beloved site...

Sorry for my rant, but I'm truly thinking about quitting using the FTP files and contribute solely the "classical" way. Therefore, this is probably the last time that I update the listings... thank you very much again for all your time and support! PalmasPalmas

Thank you very much again for all of your valuable help and support.

After 8 months of work we have managed to get 'also archive footage' down from 22,843 to 20,640 instances. Down just over 2,200 instances. Personally though, I think that many, many more have been removed than that and that in the meantime new instances have been added by other contributors, these spread across many different titles.

Many of the names which have still dozens of instances are difficult to correct in blocks as they are such large pages.
Overall the instances are also spreading out over more and more titles, making corrections more time consuming generally.
In October 2015 they were spread over 8,133 different titles. That number has since risen to 8'256 despite the significant reduction in the number of instances.

I have been happy to help the cause by submitting corrections for the various obviously inaccurate and nonsensical combinations as far as attributes go. I would not have been able to find these without your valuable input and help.

We have managed to wipe out a large number of the obvious mistakes that were amongst the attributes in the database. For example:
October 2015:
Credits with both (also archive footage) and (credit only): 375
June 2016:
Credits with both (also archive footage) and (credit only): 1
October 2015:
Credits with both (CREDIT ONLY) and (ARCHIVE FOOTAGE): 123
June 2016:
Credits with both (CREDIT ONLY) and (ARCHIVE FOOTAGE): 1

And we have also wiped out quite a few attributes that were simply typing errors or misspellings, which is good. Hopefully, it is not possible for these to be reintroduced, selected or entered in future submissions.

It remains my belief that the best way forward would be for imdb to make it impossible for any of the undesirable attributes to be utilized (i.e. to have a set list which has to be stuck to) as well as to make the combinations of attributes that clearly are of no sense or logic unacceptable for all new submissions.

I too am not in the industry and nor am I particularly concerned about the number or accumulation of these so called 'Col points', actually I don't know how many I have this year, have had in previous years or have overall, nor how they are calculated! I have done all of this to help out.

I will presently continue to take a look at your last batch of statistics and submit corrections wherever I can. Hopefully they will be accepted. It is always frustrating when they remain unedited.

Thereafter I will submit corrections simply wherever I happen to come across errors in general (after all, this is how this started, I came across an odd error in amongst the credits of a title I was working on!).

Again, thank you for your precious help.
Best of luck with whatever you are personally working on!

It would be interesting to know how things are looking with this problem. I still delete all of the erroneous attributes and combinations of attributes when I come across them, though not sure how effective this is against those still being added.
I wrote to imdb when they requested feedback and idea from contributors about this issue. Though I have noted that unfortunately it is still possible for contributors to select attributes in combinations that do not make sense.
