Problem adding quote on Scream Queens' IMDB Page

I was trying to add a quote on the Scream Queens' IMDB page, and since there are not any quotes by the character on the page yet I had to type in her name instead. I typed it in correctly (and re-checked the spelling 100 times) yet a rejection error keeps coming up that I must choose a name from the cast menu. I also tried using the actress' real name just in case it wanted that for some strange reason. Help please.

Hi, groovyvic. The "Name" field's value will be something other than "Choose"; which in this case, "Unknown" is only option. The fact that there is no way to select Gigi Caldwell (Pedrad, Nasim) is a limitation glitch. Thanks for reporting this.

There aren't many quotes on the page and the only clickable names are those that have already been used in a quote (a lot of the main characters aren't listed in the drop down menu). It doesn't make sense for them to give an option to type in a name if that really isn't an option.... thanks for your response, but something still doesn't add up. hmm

Right, groovyvic. Undoubtedly something does not add up, which is why I referred to this as a "glitch".

So, does Gigi Caldwell say, "It'll be fun, like a Friends episode... but someone's trying to murder all the friends", in every episode? Or is it that you, groovyvic, don't know in which specific episode she says the line? The warning message in the submission form implies a clear preference that the quote be added to the title entry for the specific episode to which it applies.

I don't know what episode it was from, but they just say its preferable if I know the episode. That isn't the reason they're giving for it being rejected.

"This item has been rejected. You need to correct this item before it will be accepted.
  • Please select a name from the cast menu for speaker #1
If you do not know which cast member spoke this line, please select "Unknown" from the cast name menu instead."

You can get around the rejection message if you sacrifice identifying the actress who plays the part, groovyvic. That's not ideal, so understandably you might decline to go such a route.

Hi both,

This is a known issue. The reason you can select any of the characters on the series level dropdown is due to the old functionality from the past before episodes were created as a data type. You need to add the quote at the episode level, there you will be able to select the correct actress from the dropdown results.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Will

Their are a lot of missing Characters in the drop down menu(12 out of 18 missing). And if you use other and enter it manually it does not work.

CliffJ, have you tested the approach to verify that the character name will appear as a hyperlink to the IMDb name page for the portrayer of that character, in the quotes section of the IMDb title page to which the quote would be applied, the way it is supposed to?

YES
Look below at the green page. It's the 3rd down.  Its "other" "Unknown" The enter Character name, then in parenthesis Actor/Actress (Sir Name, First Name) as it shows on the page.
The choose was where you were both going wrong. Choose means choose a name in the dropdown. Unknown means the name is Not in the dropdown and is unknown!

bUT if I know Chad Radwell got his first boner watching Faces of Death then it is not unKNOwn. if choosing unknown is the right option then I am upset with IMDB, if not I'm still upset with IMDB because no one goes thru every single episode to look at the quotes so frig

Its not the Quote. Its the Character Name. Until someone like you or I enter a character name and give them a Quote they are not in the drop down. Its confusing. Jeorj is smart and I dont know if he understands yet. Unknown by the character quote database. Did you ever notice that on an episode level that the characters name can be black (no link) and on others blue (link)? This is accomplished when a character name is submitted. But it wont work unless you choose, "unknown".

bUT I DONT get IT. I can't enter a character name until a character name has been entered but if I enter a character name a character name can be entered? or I have to enter it thru an episode and then once it's entered under an episode it can be entered under the main tv show.......................wAt

Have not gone that far yet. Just know how to on the episode level with an unknown character name to the database. Lets do it episode level. Wait for Live. Then see if it can then be done on Series level. You know how to get my attention. Just find something I have replied to in the last 15 min. I'll help you get it through if you are still having trouble. I'd put it in myself, but I know you want to know how its done

Your solution seems problematic because you included the actor's name under 'Character'. It then becomes "Gigi Caldwell (Nasim Pedrad) (unknown)" in the dropdown. This is not the way it is designed to work.

Now that the character Gigi Caldwell is part of the character database for this title, (the Blue highlighted link, not the non link black character name) We will see if my theory is correct. That is that Quotes would be able to be on a series level. That is once this contribution is approved and goes Live. The character should now be part of the existing 5 out of 19 characters, or the 6th. This is why you can look at an episode by episode search and see that a characters name is blue highlighted some times and on other episodes be not blue (Black) Blue=link to Quotes OR Pictures with no Quotes. Black means Zip Nada. But until a characters name is entered for the first time (The way the system wants it entered correctly) (which I have done), then it is not available as a dropdown choice.

Jeorj, what point? He removed it. I think he saw my point. I am able to navigate that Quote section part without hesitation. Also an employee after reading all of this realized that the majority of the cast was missing. While not being posted here that it was fixed, they indeed have fixed it. Still I have showed you all how to do it manually when the quote is a guest star that is not on the regular cast list. Let me know if you need me to explain it, or have questions!

For the second time That's exactly how it works!!! Only you have formatted it wrong.
It is typed in as.......... Gigi Caldwell (Pedrad, Nasim).
Think about it Jeorj....all actors names or production assistants names etc etc, are always entered..... Sir Name, First Name. Just go to the corrected quotes page and USE the dropdown list. They are all listed in the manner I have just described. Question? Why must I be Wrong? Can you not see I am right. I said earlier that I would not advise someone to do something unless I knew it to be 100% correct.
I have shown you a screenshot. What more do you need as proof?

Well, there is typographical error in Peter's observation, whereby the comma separating family name from given name is omitted, but even with the comma present, the point still stands. Inasmuch, the "who" box selection winds up containing "Gigi Caldwell (Nasim, Pedrad) (unknown)" for the example at hand. No matter what, the string "(unknown)" preceded by a space will be appended to the character name, until something other than "Unknown" can be selected from the "Name" drop-down selection.

CliffJ, you may not be able to see so in the way the average web browser displays the submission form, but it is there. In Firefox, please try changing the "Page Style" setting to "No Style", which usually found in Firefox's "View" menu. You should then be able to see to what  Peter and I are referring.

Does not matter. My way works, and the screenshots GVic matched my browsers. Your position holds no water. Once the mistakes in format that was being used were corrected... Viola... GREEN SCREEN!
What you are not getting is that this procedure I described, IS when the actor IS NOT in the drop down menu. IE: Unknown. This is how it is done when you want to manually enter the info that does not exist yet. I am 100% Correct. So is your point. This is apples/oranges. I'm describing an Apple. I fixed G-Vic's apple problem. You're talking Oranges.

Obtaining a "green screen" is only half the objective in a submission. The full objective is for a properly-formatted information item to go live on the site. If this is a matter analogous to comparing apples and oranges, then it should be clear that apples are wanted and oranges are not, or vice versa. It's not an "either one will suffice" situation. Capisce?

Live is a lemon. Apples was fixed. Your talking oranges.
Why Am I wrong. She could not make a submission. I solved the submission problem
I only did what the page wanted done to make it green
What/? Did I somehow "Fool" the page.
I figured it out.
You did not. Why am  I wrong? Tell me what was wrong.
Repeating again. I followed what the instructions on the page said to do.
It is that simple.

If you actually reply with any more points to justify your position I think it's best you start a new thread and we'll see what others think. I would only ask that you take my green screen and paste it and ask this simple question.

Is this the correct way to make a Quote submission?.
Nothing other than The Picture screen grab. and the title above, with the same thing repeated in the description. Just copy and paste only this.
Remember, I will not reply on this topic here. I will on a new thread.

The objective is for the role description (or character name) to appear as a hyperlink to the name page of the portrayer of that character, in terms of identifying the being who expresses the line or group of lines. That is the bottom line.

Could you help me with Jeorj please. He will not let go of his position that my solution to the submission problem is wrong. I posted this thread to try and stop the back and forth. He keeps making it sound that I have incorrectly done it. If I had I would be getting yellow or pink screens. Somehow my green screen to him means its wrong. I don't get his not understanding that the sites software programming will pick up errors. His thinking is that I have somehow fooled the software!

Just to be clear, that word that starts with the letter "w" started being used by CliffJ not me. While I've undoubtedly implied it by pointing out that Peter is accurate, in a situation whereby the remarks of those two are in contradiction, that is not what matters. The bottom line identified earlier is what matters.

Please see the submission guide:

"Please submit quotes for television shows to the relevant episode. Quotes submitted at series level should represent repeated lines or themes of the show. Please note that on some parent series listings it is possible to link to certain characters and not others. This is caused by historical functionality pre-dating the episode specific ttconsts. In these cases please add the quotes for those characters directly to the relevant episodes."

and

"Please do not wrap the quoted line in quotation marks."
