Which widely-acclaimed horror movie of the 1970s (with an IMDB rating of
at least 7.0) do you believe is least deserving of its hype?

It's difficult to think of examples because most horror movies have a hard time gaining acclaim outside of fan circles. But I was not very impressed by the rather famous Amityville Horror (1979).

A lot of people apparently weren't very impressed by the rather famous Amityville Horror (1979). That's why it has a 6.2 rating.

You are right. However, it was a great success, was nominated for important awards and spawned many sequels. So maybe „susprisingly popular“ is more fitting in that case than „overrated“.

I think it would be simpler to ask "Favorite 1970s Horror Movie", if anything the 70s was a Golden Age for gritty horror dramas and well-made slasher movies and it's kind of unfair to approach the genre with a rather negative opinion, these movies aren't that overhyped to begin with.

I like when the word 'overrated' goes with movies that garnered critical acclaim and awards without being much enjoyable or entertaining to the audiences or movies that are put on a pedestal on the basis of a prestige director and a few good scenes...

What I was alluding to was the fact that the description above states: "(with an IMDB rating of at least 7.0)", meaning that to suggest The Amityville Horror, you either must have ignored or disregarded this clearly spelled-out stipulation.

The point of this poll is to invite people to make somewhat controversial complaints about movies which are currently acclaimed or widely admired. A movie with a 6.2 rating may have been popular at one time, but it obviously has had a significant backlash against it since then.

EIM.:
Changing it to "Favorite 1970s Horror Movie" would change the entire nature of the poll. And while the genre itself is not very "overhyped", there are specific films that often are, for example, The Exorcist (1973), which is often presented with the tagline, "The scariest movie of all time!" If someone were to watch The Exorcist and think, "This movie isn't scary at all, I think it's okay, but it's not 'the scariest of all time'," then that person could reply to this poll and declare that it's "overrated".

There is an argument to be made that calling movies "overrated" is an overly-negative and not very productive way to pass the time. However, overratability is the sole focus of this particular poll, so to try to eliminate that aspect would be changing the poll beyond recognition. If that's how you feel about it, you ought to come right out and say, "Stop this poll before it's too late!", or something like that.

I must admit that I actually overlooked the note that mentions the 7.0 minimum.

I would like to suggest The Omen (1976) for your poll (IMDb rating 7.6).

Yes, wasn't even close to the novel. I had really high hopes for this one after reading the novel because of the higher IMDb rating, but.... :(
