Not to diminish Tobe Hopper's legacy (Jean Vigo is one of the most celebrated directors of all-time and he made only one feature film), but I think it's more face-off material, Poltergeist vs. Texas Chainsaw vs. Another one

Sure, you're asking for 'scariest', not 'greatest' or 'most classic', but I'm pretty sure it'll end up as a duel between the two classics anyway.

I like this poll but it would be a great face-off and often there is a dearth of good face-offs.

I wasn't aware that Tobe Hooper had pass away. I'm sorry to hear that. I've only seen 4 of his films listed and one of my favorite horror films is Poltergeist. They’re here! I believe the team of Hooper and Spielberg changed the face of horror films. I’m also intrigued by the “curse and hijinks” that occurred during the filming and the after it’s original release.  It was the normal family living in what looked like a normal house. The family dynamics were spot on perfect due to excellent casting. Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams were the quintessential yuppie parents living the suburban lifestyle until paranormal activity sets life on a tilt. Their child’s abduction to the otherworld forces them to open up their house and their minds to new ideas and experiments brought courtesy of wacky people, who are the only ones who can help them. The gorgeously directed swimming pool scene where Diana is fending off corpses makes us rethink the security of the upscale lifestyle. That creepy woman/medium Zelda Rubenstein.

To very different types of horror both with great scare factors, hard to choose as both are classics, but poltergeist edges it for me.

I didn't know Hopper directed both Poltergeist and Texas Chainsaw. Those are the only two on the list that I've seen (I'm not a huge fan of horror films) and they both are really scary so it's a tough choice but I think Poltergeist freaked me out more, yikes.

'Well written intro. but a few small edits would make it grammatically perfect, as well:

Tobe Hooper, the legendary Horror film director has passed away on August 26, 2017, at the age of 74. In his entire career, he directed 15 horror films. Which one is the scariest?

(I just added two commas: one after "2017" and one after "career.")

And I was surprised to see this poll make the home page. There are a very few number of RIP kind of polls go to the HP.

And thank god I didn't listen to you to make it a F/O...!!! HAHAHA...!!!

RIP and birthday polls generally work. They didn't make a homepage poll for George Romero but Wes Craven had one.

And thank god I didn't listen to you to make it a F/O...!!! HAHAHA...!!!
I know, I'm sucking a lemon right now.
If you can give me advice of the same effect for my polls, I'd be glad to hear them.

Elmo,

Your polls are a great inspiration for me. Specially the quotes polls and Oscar polls. You don't need any advice. You are the boss at your own field. I can just say, please maintain the AP writing format on the title of the polls. That really helps.

And I love your quote polls. I guess you are the only one who makes such polls on this board.

Correction, it was a US mini-series, a theatrical movie and finally a TV movie.

Mini-series
Salem's Lot
originally aired on CBS on November 17 and 24 of 1979 in two 2-hour segments.

Theatrical Movie
'Salem's Lot' had a limited release theatrically internationally. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079844/business?ref_=tt_ql_dt_4. A 112-minute edit of the miniseries was subsequently given a theatrical release in Europe. The theatrical film version cut was later shown on US cable, like most feature films

TV movie
The following year, CBS aired an edited version of the miniseries in one 3-hour segment as a TV movie.

It would be less confusing if you specified theatrical films or feature films or used the term "select".

Great question but why is Salem's Lot not on this list? Although it is a tv movie, it did have a cinema release in some territories including the UK. Tobe is credited as it's director so it should've been included regardless. Not only is it Hooper's greatest film in all but influence, it's one of the finest horror films of all time and helped usher in the element of late 70s, early 80s theme of teens face unimaginable terror in the dark, played out brilliantly in tv series Stranger Things.

DC,

By my count, there are only 243 polls including this one that have 10,000 or more votes. What do you consider to be the 243rd poll to reach 10,000 votes?

This one is 243rd - Musicals With an Oscar for Best Picture

It reached 10K yesterday. Actually these polls are rigged by a large group of Russian (I guess) members. So, it maybe difficult for you to track down the sudden super jump in votes.

For example, my 'Tobe Hooper' poll has got 2000 votes in last 7 days.

I just found this one.

I guess my 'Hooper' poll is 245th actually...!!!

DC,

The active spamming of polls and film ratings for the last two to three weeks puts in doubt any poll statistics henceforth. Until I do a comprehensive update of the poll votes, I will not know which polls reached 10,000 votes or other milestones.

Dan,

The following polls with 10K+ votes have been rigged and you may have missed these at the time of your calculation:

1. Oscars 2018 — Best Foreign Language Film (243rd)

2. Musicals With an Oscar for Best Picture (244th)

3. Tobe Hooper's Scariest Horror Film (245th)

...and the 246th is on the way. This one will be there any time soon:

Emmys 2017 — Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pibby,

Good thing this only happens in movie polls and not in important things like elections!

I don't know about other countries, but in India, at some places, the rigging in election is common and happens most of the times.

DC,

Peter's comment was tongue-in-cheek. Election rigging is a worldwide problem.

The spamming continues. The active polls listed towards the end of this list are generally the ones affected.
