Live Poll: The 'South Park' Movie (20th Anniversary Musical Poll)

Known as the "year that changed movies", it's only fitting that 1999 hasn't lost its historical significance on the field of animation.

The year saw the release of Disney's final feature from the 'Renaissance' era, making a successful torch-passing to Pixar animation with Toy Story 2 (1999). But if there is a tendency to label Tarzan (1999) as the last classic animated film, in my humble opinion this honor goes to the contender, the unexpected newcomer, the movie adapted from a then two-year old TV series: South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999) .

And the film doesn't only shine for its unlikely combo of a classic approach to storytelling with the shows' typical use of vulgar humor, profanity and satirical treatment of timely issues, but also what I consider the greatest set of songs since The Lion King (1994). Except that he film didn't have three Oscar-nominated songs, but only one while it had at least four or five potential nominees, and can be considered a great musical in its own right.

Now, should be blame Phil Collins? Or blame society? Or should we blame the snobbish Academy? NO! BLAME CANADA! BLAME CANADA!

Anyway, the past we can't change, so all we can do (and maybe what Brian Boitano would do) is to pay a tribute to the 20-year old classic through its most valuable aspect: songs. Which song from the film is your personal favorite?

Great idea, but realization...

I'd like to but can not believe that anyone going to vote one of the 'South Park' songs needs the long, very long and further prolonged subjective philosophical misplaced offsets about historical significance of 1999 as a year, Disney's 'Renaissance' era, Pixar's Toy Story 2, (non-?)labelling Tarzan (1999) as the last classic animated film, Phil Collins and Canada to blame or not to blame... - all the long preamble making this poll boring now.

Chances are the voter may need (or not) a refresh for his memory: the lyrics (at least, the most important parts of them) and/or the links to audio materials (e.g. soundcloud, youtube).

Thanks for your input.

I always take forever to say something that could be summed up in three short and sweet bullet points, it's my little sin. You made a valid point but allow me to keep the list the way it is. Maybe it's a wrong bias, but I think there haven't been many SP polls before so that alone would be an encouragement to vote and I don't think the length of the introduction will have any effect whatsoever on their enthusiasm.

Not sure they'd need a link to the songs, well, maybe a few of them, but the songs are so memorable and catchy I'm sure it won't be necessary (or maybe I'm trying to find excuses and I'm just too lazy to add links or copy-paste lyrics)

ElM.

PS: did you really mean it when you said "boring"?

I really mean that your great list of options is hidden under the boring poll. Preamble is the part of the poll, if I'm not mistaken. Again, thank you for the great poll-idea.

PS: Depending on theme, the initial theses should be interesting to discuss, but they misplaced for several songs. Those really don't need them.

I wouldn't want a SP-themed poll to be boring, I'll try to get to the point while insisting that SP is really one of these underrated movies that should be regarded today as true classics, for me it's one helluva musical, the animation makes it look cheap but the rest is just class A material.

I'll work on this list, the hardest part is over anyway since I could get the right picture for each option.

I love this poll, ElMo, and it cracks me up -- especially "Blame Canada!" Lol. And of course, you have another really informative and well-written intro. I don't yet know which song would get my vote but it will be fun to see the results: if I can't make up my mind, I might give my vote to the one with the least votes.

Oh, may I suggest one tiny edit? ('below in bold; just added a comma between "trouble-maker" and "the")

Known as the "year that changed movies", 1999 was also a game-changer for animation with the release of Disney's final 'Renaissance' successfully passing the torch to Pixar animation with Toy Story 2 (1999). Any animation purist would consider Tarzan (1999) as the last "classic" animated film, but how about the unexpected newcomer and 'trouble-maker,' the movie adapted from a then two-year old TV series and that no one saw coming: South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999)?

Oh, and I love the "mmm, kay" at the end. : )
