My vote: Miracle (2004)
I was attending the University of Minnesota when Herb Brooks led the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team to victory. Herb Brooks was the coach of the University of Minnesota hockey team at the time.
Hockey is the favorite sport in Minnesota. Many young people play hockey year round. Herb Brooks was a Minnesota hero when the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team won the gold metal.
For your consideration:
Football
Brian's Song (1971 TV Movie)
Based on the real-life relationship between teammates Brian Piccolo and Gale Sayers and the bond established when Piccolo discovers that he is dying.

It's tough to choose but I will go with Rush follow by Cinderella Man.
The rivalry between Niki and James trespassing to the movie was simply exciting. The movie is just great.
Cinderella Man for me, shows the determination and and passion of a boxer who has managed to turn around his life but without never lose his humility. When I watch this movie always gives me chills, truly inspiring.
One question, The Warrior is based on a true life story?

The Trivia of 'Warrior' on IMDb says, it is ... slightly. ;) Quote from Trivia:
"Brendan Conlon may be loosely based on the life of real-life UFC fighter Rich "Ace" Franklin. Like the character, Franklin was also a high school teacher who took part in cage-fights to make extra money."
Sounds a little like a part of the story of 'Warrior'.
Hollywood did as they always do - they created a story around an astounding fact to make it more interesting. What do you think about? Is it too lose?

That's not real life enough for me.
I want the sportsman to be real life, not the farmer.
But you had some pretty good suggestions I will put on the list.
Thank you, ACT_1

If there were other real-life based sport movies with high excitement,
I would like to add some more without baseball or football.
Give other sports a chance, too, please. :D
But anyway thank you. You all were good help.

I just saw "Rush" 1 time in cinema. Then there were many other movies I got to see with my guys. But I always had a craving feeling about that movie, just wanted to see it again. It has so many true and touchy 80's moments I remembered and thinked of that time when I was a kid and followed the news about it. The spirit of the 80's lays on that movie. The atmosphere, that I as a kid theretimes didn't felt exact so, but it was good transported. The Atmosphere in the 80's at Germany were nearly as plain as shown in the movie.
Later on Bluray I watched it exactly 1 time, because of other movies I was curious about. But in my deeper mind, I always want to see that movie again. It's great. I guess I know why you love this movie. For me, it feels authentic. I lived at this time while young, watching that from media. Now I seriously want to watch that again. :D

So ok, I will delete this line. Thank you for helping me to become more skillful. ;)

(I searched the trivia, but didn't find anything. On the main page on IMDb where the main genres are showed,There is no tag like 'Biography' or 'True story' or 'based on true events' or something like that in the genres of this movie.)

Well, there are different sources on that you can take the informations. I try to take the best ones and consider IMDb according to movie and tv business as a very serious source of information. If the information you seek isn't there, may be there are other serious sources. (Studios, Artists, etc.) When you know one, please give me some infos. I will consider then if I take it on the list. If I feel unsure, I won't.

Forget the movie Le Mans (1971) It is not based on a true story.
Go for this instead. Far more interesting as it is about his one trip to the race and actually racing on the course. This has more drama and interestingly enough has the same 6.8 rating! And it is a documentary. If you don't use it, watch it if you are a McQueen fan. Also see my Invictus suggestion below. Thanks Cheers

I do not believe that Warrior (2011) meets the criteria for your poll. According to this news article:
‘Banshee’ Co-Creator Jonathan Tropper Inks With CAA
https://www.imdb.com/news/ni62209239?ref_=ttnw_art_plk
Warrior is a period crime drama inspired by the writings and work of martial arts icon Bruce Lee that is set during the brutal Tong Wars in San Francisco’s Chinatown in the late 1800s.

I read this little qoute before I decided to put 'Warrior' to the list. It's in the trivia of 'Warrior' on IMDb:
"Brendan Conlon may be loosely based on the life of real-life UFC fighter Rich "Ace" Franklin. Like the character, Franklin was also a high school teacher who took part in cage-fights to make extra money."
First I thought that it might be a little far from criteria, but then I put it to the list because of givin' it a chance to stay on the list while being debateable. When you read the lines of the trivia, what do you think of it? Should it stay or should I still put it off? Please tell me, be free in your choice. If you say no, I'll put it off the list. :)
... ups, that's my 1000th post! :D Yay!

May I suggest just two edits? (They're in bold below. I took the question out of bold only to avoid confusion. I like the question being bolded and I do the same thing.)
