The Blue Max is the best airplane movie of all time. No movie has the incredible aerial cinematography that The Blue Max has ! The Blu-ray was not mass produced, I was lucky to get one of the Twilight Time Limited Editions (3000 were made).

Do you care to define what you mean by "airplane" movie?
FYC:
The Wind Rises (2013)
Porco Rosso (1992)
Memphis Belle (1990)
Dunkirk (2017)

Cheeky honorable mention:
Up in the Air (I) (2009)

I would say either the movie is about a plane or most of the story happens on a plane. You see like ''Up in the air'' is not happening on a plane or is not about a plane. Dunkirk is not either. But Memphis Belle is. I haven't watched it but it seem the movie is purely about a fighter plane. I hope it makes sense. :)

I put Up in the Air as an honorable mention because I know it doesn't qualify.

That rest doesn't make sense because you have movies about fighter planes already on the list. Top Gun is only fighter planes. At least a third of Dunkirk is on a fighter planes. Probably the same amount as Top Gun.

Memphis Belle is a bomber plane like Sole Survivor and The Flight of the Phoenix.

hey Stephen, I have added the first two animations you suggested. Thank you :)

But I am still not convinced about Dunkirk as the plane is not playing a significant role in the movie, if we put Dunkirk, we should put any war movies that are planes in it. ;)

Anyway, thank you for the other suggestions, appreciate it.

Are you sure The Aviator is an airplane movie? I saw it a long time ago and I can't quite remember, but I think it was more about movie making and Golden Age Hollywood, not about a plane or with a significant part of the action occuring in a plane.

FYC:

Snakes on a Plane (2006)
The Great Waldo Pepper (1975)
Airport (1970)
Battle of Britain (1969)
Soul Plane (2004)
Executive Decision (1996)
Wings (1927)
The Sound Barrier (1952)
Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines... (1965)
Planes: Fire & Rescue (2014)
The Red Baron (2008)
Twelve O'Clock High (1949)
Ground Control (1998)
High Road to China (1983)

Aviator plane scenes.
Howard filming the movie Wings with a camera in a Bi-Plane.
Howard setting the world speed record as a pilot in an aircraft designed by him.
Howard crashing a experimental WWII spy plane and being severely injured.
Howard and Katherine Hepburn flying together after the bar fight.
Howard flies that same plane earlier on in his first meeting wit Hepburn on set at a movie.
Howard nearly going bankrupt purchasing the first run of the Constellation for 30 million dollars for his airline TWA.
Howard flying the Hercules (Spruce Goose) on it's maiden and only voyage.
Aviator is most definitely about planes.
I think I missed a transcontinental flight record too.

Glad to help again.

I'm sorry but I didn't count the number of suggestions I gave, and now your poll is having 38 options.

As a general rule for the future, no poll is allowed to have more than 35 options, so you will need to delete 3 of them.

I would suggest that you remove Soul Plane (with a very low rating), Ground Control (Few votes and thus mostly unknown) and The Concorde... Airport 79 (There are two other better rated Airport movies for people who wants to vote on the franchise), and that would make the list have 35 titles.
But of course it is your choice at the end.

Also, there are two title, Wings and Twelve O'Clock High, were you listed tv series with the same name instead of the films that you meant. Both movies are Oscar nominees so they are important additions.

In order to avoid confussions, you can paste their title reference: tt0018578 and tt0041996 to add the correct films to your list.

Hi Reggie and welcome to the poll board. : )

I have two suggestions:

1.) I would take "Airplane" out of quote marks: IMDb uses 'single quotes' and "double quotes" to indicate titles of films and TV series, respectively, but a lot of people probably don't remember the difference but remember that some quote marks = title. Since there were a series of movies called 'Airplane!,' I suspect a lot of people would see the title and think of those movies.

2.) Above, you described the poll, very well, as involving films in which "either the movie is about a plane or most of the story happens on a plane." I'd include that in intro. Combined with the question, perhaps something like:

Below is a list of films in which the movie is either about a plane or most of the story happens on a plane. What is your favorite airplane movie of all time?

... Oh, and of the movies on the list so far, I'd definitely vote for 'United 93.' : )

He's not a historian, obviously.
So he would not know about it.

He left out 'The Blue Max' too
