I'll take care of the list later...

If you had to make a compilation of your Top 10 favorite movie songs, that would include...?

(let's see who's gonna have the most voted soundtrack, just don't flood it with Disney songs unless you're a Disney fan, of course)

I'll start (in no order)

"Prince Ali" (Aladdin)
"Shout" (Animal House)
"Be My Baby" (Mean Streets)
"Suicide is Painless" (MASH)
"Mrs. Robinson"
(The Graduate)
"To Sir, With Love" (To Sir, With Love)
"Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling"
 (High Noon)
"Blame Canada"
(
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut)
"Every Sperm is Sacred" (Monty Python's Meaning of Life)
"Que Sera Sera (Whatever Will be Will be)"
(The Man Who Knew Too Much)

Awesome poll!  Unlike most song polls, we get to pick 10!
One question, though: Do the songs just have to from "musicals," or can we pick anything in the soundtrack to a non-musical movie?

Okay, I just wanted to make sure.  :)  Well, here's mt top 10 - I may change something, but maybe not.

1. Edge of a Dream from Space Mutiny
2. Take My Breath Away from Top Gun
3. Invincible from Legend of Billie Jean (never seen it, just LOVE that song!)
4. St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion) from St. Elmo's Fire (again, never seen it, lol!)
5. Against the Ninja from Miami Connection
6. Constant as the Stars Above from Barbie as Rapunzel
7. I Stand Alone from Quest for Camelot (Steve Perry version)
8. Valjean's Soliloquy from Les Miserables
9. Flower, Gleam, and Glow from Tangled
10. Once Upon a December from Anastasia

So... yeah.  As usual, my picks as offbeat and obscure, but there they are.  Eat you heart out, Greatest Showman - Space Mutiny's got the beat!  :D

Thanks.  ;)

Hip to be square (American Psycho)
Why should I worry (Oliver and Company) (this version, in honor of my sister who loves this movie to death, lol)
Gently Johnny (The Wicker Man)
110th Street (Jackie Brown)
Nightcall (Drive)
Aquarela do Brasil (Saludos Amigos)
Urami Bushi (Female Prisoner #701: Scorpion; also used in Kill Bill btw)
The Gospel Truth (Hercules)

Push it to the limit sounds at the exact moment, perfectly describes what is happening to Tony and creates an impact on the atmosphere. There are also more iconic songs like She's on fire or Rush Rush.

I tried not to take anything that was someone else's choice already, but I have to add Cheek to Cheek as number 11 (as it appears in The Purple Rose of Cairo though - so bittersweet).

Here's my list, with clips from the movies in which songs are heard. In chronological order and irrespective of whether song/version was written specifically for the movie or just used in such a way it became inseparable.
"V nebi kanareechka litaye" from Za dvoma zaytsiamy (1961)
"You Got Me Burning in the Third Degree" from The Terminator (1984)
"Princes of the Universe" from Highlander (1986)
"Just an Illusion" from F/X (1986)
"Zvezda po imeni Solntse" from Igla (1988)
"In a Moonlit Night" from In una notte di chiaro di luna (1989) (was not able to find the clip, but the song itself is officially on YouTube, thankfully)
"Adios" from Mean Guns (1997)
"I'm Deranged (Edit)" from Lost Highway (1997)
"Killing Moon" from Donnie Darko (2001)
"Under Your Spell" from Drive (2011)

Honorable mentions or a hint that 10 is clearly not enough in my case. ;)
"Photographic" from The Last Horror Film (1982)
"Ku" from Kin-dza-dza! (1987)
"The Answer" from The Dead Next Door (1989)
"The Reynolds Rap" from Lunatics: A Love Story (1991)
"Rhythm of the Night" from Beau travail (1999)
"House of 1000 Corpses" from House of 1000 Corpses (2003)
"A Day" from The Guest (2014)
"We're Changing" from Glass (2019)

NarniaisAwesome, original songs from The Terminator (1984) are all from relatively unknown singers/actors and they are jaw-dropping good 80's goodness. I probably like "Pictures of You" even better, but the problem is its use in the movie is far from being that memorable.

Since The Terminator (1991) video game (one of my all-time favorites) lacks music I often just play it to this soundtrack. Searching for Sara Connor in polygonal DOS LA to "Pictures of You" is just such a great activity.

cinephile, your comment was caught in the spam filter (probably due to abundance of links), fished it out.

Also: a great list! "Que Sera Sera" is something I never expected was from a Hitchcock movie, but he surprised me yet again with it in my early teens.

I have ZERO idea how to not randomly do this one (just a shotgun list of 10 songs... I can recall that would fit this). I'll give it a ponder and hopefully make a half way decent list... that won't make me feel guilty for inevitably leaving out songs I really love but remember at a later (postpublication) date.

Push it to the Limit (Scarface)
Mrs Robinson (The Wolf of Wall Street
Paint it Black (Full Metal Jacket)
Jungle Boogie (Pulp Fiction)
Society (Into the Wild)
Cat People (Inglorious Basterds)
Fortunate Son(Forrest Gump)
Where is my Mind(Fight Club)
Brian Song (Life of Brian)
Best of My Love(Boogie Nights)

Probably many of the songs are not original of these movies, in fact I did not know that Mrs Robinson had been written for The Graduate because I have not seen the movie but the use of these songs were so exact that they undoubtedly influenced my experience at the time of watching these movies.

I couldn't possibly make a list but two songs have stuck with me for many years - oddly enough both from Robert Redford / Paul Newman movies:
"Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head" - Butdh Cassidy and The Sundance Kid and
"The Entertainer" from The Sting

"The Entertainer" from piano genius Scott Joplin is another big deal. I like it, when people remember on lost music styles. Ragtime is a great kind of music, but who still does it today? It was released in 1902.

May I put down a list now but reserve the right to revise it? Lol. In other words, maybe don't go through the trouble of putting it on your poll list until I process it a bit? I don't think I'll make many changes, though.

By the way, a couple of mine are on your list, too, ElMo. :)

In no particular order:

"Wise Up" by Aimee Mann (Magnolia)
"Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon" by Urge Overkill (Pulp Fiction)
"Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley (Shrek)
"Live to Tell" by Madonna (At Close Range)
"Fight the Power" by Public Enemy (Do the Right Thing)
"Fall On Me" by R.E.M. (10,000 Saints)  or "Belong" by R.E.M. (Slacker Uprising)
"Mrs. Robinson" by Simon & Garfunkel (The Graduate)
"To Sir with Love" by Lulu (To Sir with Love)
"Sounds of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkel (The Graduate)
"These Are Days" by Natalie Merchant (Bringing Out the Dead)

I can get you an image to go with this if you like.

'Fun idea; good idea, ElM!

Hi, ElMo. :D
I got a few hundret songs in my head, that appeared in movies. For me it's an exhausting thing making out, which one I would choose to be better than the other. So I got ten candidates that came first to my mind:

Kenny Loggins: Footloose (Footloose)

AC/DC: Back in Black (Iron Man)

The Knack: My Sharona (Super 8)

Free: All Right Now (american Beauty)

Queen: We Will Rock You (Bohamian Rhapsody)

Queen: Who Want's to Live Forever (Highlander)

The Sweet: Ballroom Blitz (Hot Fuzz)

Huey Lewis and the News: Power of Love (Back to the future)

Louis Armstrong: What A Wonderful World (Happy New Year)

Elvis Presley: It's Now or Never (The In-Laws)

Thank you.
But I would change two points about it.
I would change the Louis Armstrong pick to:
"Just an Illusion" from Imagination ('F/X', 1996)
and the Presley pick to:
"The Entertainer" from Scott Joplin ('The Sting' with Robert Redford)
(Even though it's not a song, it's an instrumental)

If you need 2 of 10 of my songs for the instrumental part,
it would be the theme of 'Pink Panther' from Henry Mancini and
'A Shot in the Dark', also Mancini. I guess 7/10 of my prefered
instrumentals would be of Mancini's feather. ;)

Not yet, I was still working on the general idea behind the poll, I was about to consider "Push it to the Limit" from Scarface then I realized I liked the clip more than the song and that's not what the poll is about, it's about songs we love to listen to, we put in our playlist, if someone enjoys "Singin' in the Rain", that's fine unless it's biased by the wonderful choreography. So maybe I'm gonna stick to 10 choices or make it to eleven and then find another option for me.
