Poll Suggestion: IMDb Poll Board Least Favorite Popular Actors

In this poll, we will suggest the male actors that are pretty popular and have made well known films - that we just don't like.  Not on a personal level, of course, just ones we think aren't talented or we can't take seriously.  Only one suggestion per person, please!

Which will it be: Bobcat, Pee Wee, or Will?  I'm not really a Ferrell fan, he was just comical on The Office.  Have you ever seen Office?

While I can totally see why a lot of people find Bobcat Goldthwait and Paul Reubens a bit annoying, especially in their most famous roles, I actually really like both as character actors with surprising range and Goldthwait is also a fantastic director.

He just had bad luck with his last roles.

I think it's more like John Travolta, Till Schweiger, Tommy Wiseau, Michael Dudikoff, Steven Seagal, Jimmy Smits, Hayden Christensen, Uwe Boll, Rupert Grint, Taylor Lautner, Udo Kier. What about  Sacha Baron Cohen? I like him, but ... many don't
And Weird Al' Yankovic?

I'm not saying I hate him or consider him a bad actor. I'm just pointing out why some people may not consider him popular.

You do realize that in Hollywood, it's what you done recently that matters.

It might be, that it is my failure to look at a man's or woman's whole life to judge him or her. Maybe it's because I think that bashing someone is quick and easily done, while a good and convincing argumentation needs deeper thoughts and consideration. But I think I got it. This poll really is simply about bashing popular people. So I would pick Ashton Kutcher. 'Butterfly Effect' was pretty good, but since he does 80% romcoms, I can't see his face anymore. Even the Steven Jobs movie was better with Michael Fassbender.

Popularity is a very brief and ephemeral concept. You kind of getting stuck on actor's previous far distant (read as somewhat facetious) successful (critically and/audience approved) projects.

As for Ashton Kutcher? His recent turn in the TV series, The Ranch (no idea what the heck that is)? Was that well known enough but mainstream audiences to kind of keep Ashton in the popular crowd?

Stephen, what period of time are we talking about, exactly? What distance of time would be allowed? That's not properly clear on the description. Popularity can also last a decade. Look at the superhero-movies. They're popular for more then 10 years, now. Not any in mode does change that fast. Mr. Kutcher is just making a movie again (2019). It's stuffed with popular workmates (James Franco, Josh Hutcherson, Analeigh Tipton, Josh Hartnet, Giancarlo Esposito, etc.) So why should he be not a popular actor? 'The Ranch' (TV-Series) got a rating of 7.6/10 from more than 25.000 voters. It's not extly that he didn't work and wasn't popular the last time.
Without a definition of what's to be considered as popular, many time-distances can be considered as popular.

Btw: Why should Steven Seagal be more popular than Ashton Kutcher? His last 9 movies (each one) got less than 2000 ratings from the IMDb users. His last movie with more than 5000 ratings was 2012. (6063 votes, 4.9/10)

His last released movie (Dezember 2018, 'General Commander') has 61 votes, the movie before 284 votes ('Attrition'). His movies of 2017 together have less than 1900 votes. There is no actor more unpopular than Steven Seagal on this list.

Kutcher has a slight edge in numbers between 03 and Dec 2013. He stayed between #10-100 for most of the time. Segal was hovering around #200.

When I said 'Popular' Actors on these polls, I merely meant that the choices should be people we've heard of who have some kind of reputation.  If I would've simply asked 'Least Favorite Actor/Actress, I was afraid it would all be people with teeny B movies roles once in their life.  While bad, that's not what I wanted.  I was just asking what performers who have done quite a few theater movies you all don't like.  They don't have to be popular as in current hot items.

Oh yes.
Robert Downey Jr. is in the Top500, while Taylor Lautner is even in the Top5000.
Downey's Top500-display is red, Lautner's Top-5000-display is green. ;)
The more popular the actors is, the lower the Top-number is.
The red or green color marks the tendency. Right?
And the news-articles number says 6:1 for Kutcher.

That's ok. It would have been nice to write that into the rules. This limitation wasn't set. I found the situation here just like some 'bash-somebody-list' of a few users. And I wrote about exact the matter about bashing before. There was time to clear that up early!

I think Pattinson is just in this group of people you mention. Like Kutcher's 'Butterfly Effect', he did some roles after 'Twillight', that  were "serious". But to count him to 'some kind of reputation' between those old men there? Kutcher had 'The Guardian' and 'Jobs' and many romcoms. For me they're equal, replaceable. One against the other.

I really have a problem with the subject of this poll more then I should. When we don't like actors it's usually a combination of one's performance subjectively not ticking with us, one's personality and also one's luck in being cast in good projects. I can easily point cases when most of the actors listed here more then proved that they are quite talented and capable, even if I don't like, for example, Will Ferrell.

Robert Pattinson was quite good in Cosmopolis (2012).
Hayden Christensen is great in Shattered Glass (2003).
Adam Sandler blew me away in Reign Over Me (2007) with an unexpected and very serious dramatic performance.
Brad Pitt is seriously proving his range in both Fight Club (1999) and 12 Monkeys (1995).
Steven Seagal is surprisingly convincing in Ticker (2001) and handled himself well against type in Machete (2012)
Dwayne Johnson is handling himself capably in a rather difficult role in Southland Tales (2006).

I honestly think that there are fewer actors who really are bad at their job: it's usually a question of direction.

It's a matter of subjectivity.

My problem is how one describes popularity when an actor or actress has been out of the proverbial spotlight for years. Example: Britney Spears was insanely popular in her ... proverbial day. Who here is making the claim she's popular or even relatively popular now? Sure people love her music but that preexisting fanbase can't be translated into current popularity.

Stephen Atwood, it is rarely a problem coming from the actors, though. I mean, there are some of them who actively embrace and use their celebrity status, but I'm quite sure many famous people are barely comfortable with being famous: it just comes with their job.

I think I'm missing something about Britney Spears point as I don't see how preexisting fanbase even correlates with current popularity. I mean, these two things are related, but fanbase usually consists of people who don't care whether what they like is popular: they're still fans.

Stephen:
Same deal for Steven Seagal and Hugh Grant.

Nikolay:
Exact. When you have fans and they're about to enter cinema 5 years after your last movie, your still popular. And popularity isn't measurable. When does popularity beginn, where does it end?

i don't think this poll should include actors who are punching bags for the Razzies or who are already considered as box office poisons or "cool-to-hate" actors, those who have as many decriers as fans, I mean Pattinson, Seagal or even Kristen Stewart.

This poll would be more interesting if it focused on really popular actors, so popular they're like untouchables, actors like Morgan Freeman, Leo Di Caprio, Jennifer Lawrence or Margot Robbie for instance.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Jai Courtney, because he's brought up a lot in terms of being box office poison... And I think he just gets badly miscast in many roles, because he's rather awesome as Captain Boomerang in Suicide Squad (2016). Moreover that movie did fairly well at box office, despite a storm of negative reviews.
