I had this poll idea and it turned out that Kirk-Picard started this idea a while ago on the IMDb Poll message board. He gave me the permission to continue with this poll idea.

Please contribute if you like! Whose female acting performance is your favorite?

My list: http://www.imdb.com/list/ls025266905/#1

Poll: http://www.imdb.com/poll/IupY2PLpqsI/

Description: These are the favorite performances by actresses of IMDb Poll Board members. Whose performance is your favorite?

See here the thread for actors: https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/poll-suggestion-imdb-poll-board-favorite-performances-by-act...

I had you already in the list, what’s made by Kirk-Picard. Then you choose Ingrid Bergman in Notorious. Shall I change it to Gaslight?

Sorry I didn't see the list. I thought you were starting from scratch. Yes please change it.

Thank you.

I said it before and I'll say it again, Gena Rowlands gave the best performance ever in A Woman Under the Influence, I had a fair share of disagreements with borimor, but that two persons who never got along would share the same sentiment says a lot about how great she was.

I wish someone will suggest Maria Falconetti as Joan of Arc, her eyes would have deserved an Oscar for that performance. I could suggest her by default, but Rowlands is my favorite performance. I can't beat that.

Oh, that's a painfully difficult question, lol. There are so many. As of right now, I'd say Jodie Foster in The Silence of the Lambs or Brooklynn Prince in The Florida Project. Usually I don't allow myself to put a film or a performance on a favorites list, etc., until at least one year has passed since I first saw it, and The Florida Project was just released weeks ago and I saw it days ago. I should probably give this more thought, lol.

Oh, Kirk-Picard already chose Foster as Clarice. Still, I should give this more thought. If I don't come back to this string, though, go with the seven-year-old Prince for me. :)

Of course, I have a chorus of performances in my mind: Isabel Adjani in Camille Claudel, Kate Winslet in Little Children or The Reader, Maria Falconetti in Joan of Arc, Naomi Harris in Moonlight, Julianne Moore in Far From Heaven or Magnolia, and so many more.

Perhaps I'll go with Jodie Foster in The Accused for this and then create a poll for favorite child performances and use Brooklynn Prince for that. (That is if you don't mind that I steal your idea; if you were planning on doing one for child performances, obviously I won't.) So after too much deliberation, lol, you can put me down for Jodie Foster in The Accused for this one.

That’s allright, you can change it as often as you want. I don’t mind. I’ll change it for you. I think I’ll change mine into Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine.

And go ahead with the child poll. I didn’t had that idea. You made me very curious about The Florida Project. But I have to wait. In february 2018 in my country.

If I were you, I would narrow it down to "lead" performances, there are spectacular supporting performances but they tend to amplify the focus on the acting. I mean... let's take the Naomie Harris example, she's there during 3 or 4 scenes, but it's like every time she's on the screen, she creates a sensation, it's the rarity of her appearances that make the acting even more noticeable, that's the essence of a great supporting role of course, but a lead role works differently... a lead role comes to a point where the character grows on you, you don't see the actor but the man or woman behind and it's like you really feel what goes in his/her mind or heart, there's an even deeper connection. A supporting role steals the shows, a lead role makes it, and sometimes, it doesn't even need acting for that, it can be a look, a presence... that's why Falconetti gave one of the greatest performances of all time.

I agree with you about the difference between ‘lead’ and ‘supporting’, but I keep it this way. This poll is about our favorites, so it can be every role. I think that’s the best way to approach it. It’s hard to get enough contributions. In my other poll (favorite movies at teen age) I came to a list of 16 after a lot of lobbying. If there were enough contributions I would consider your suggestion. So it helps if you would contribute :) Maybe Falconetti.... :)

Oh I wasn't suggesting to make a distinction between the two "categories" (one could argue that Hopkins was supporting in Silence of the Lambs or even Brando as Vito Corleone... was Robert Shaw supporting or co-lead in Jaws? etc. etc.) But since ruby had many choices in mind, I thought the 'lead' performance should deserve more credit because their appeal can go beyond the simple act of acting (lol).

Thanks, I added your choice.
I couldn't find your account on IMDb, so there isn't a link to your page.
If you want I can add that if you send me the link.

I was a long time IMDb member, I was very active on the Poll board but I dumped my account when 'they' dumped the message boards. Now I post here occasionally (a few times a week). But if that is a prerequisite (having an IMDb account) feel free to not include my choice.

Hi Pedro Castelo,

This poll currently has 18 choices. Polls may have up to 35 choice.

If you suggest an actress and a role in a specific film, I suspect the author of this poll would be happy to update the poll.
