FYC

If you are adding notes to help people associate and recall between six similarly titled movies (ie Featuring Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man) I think putting the villainous star of each movie would be the most helpful tool to help poll takers differentiate between the six movies.

The problems with first two incarnations are the wasted talent and villain arcs.

In Raimi’s films, every character become a villain through madness or tragedy. Willem Dafoe goes crazy after an illness, Molina gains an evil persona after tragedy, and Thomas Haden-Church gets caught in a bad military experiment. No one is inherently evil or poor and, at some point in each film, you feel sorry for each villain, even Topher Grace as Venom.

In the Amazing Spider-Man series, the talent was wasted. Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti, and Dane Dehaan wasted talent. Dehaan is the only one who actually came close to being an inherently evil character and barely had enough time to use his acting chops.

Add in that both had guys that aged too quickly. Neither one was believable as a teen after the 1st film.

The MCU incarnation is the best because:

A) All villains are evil, crooked, and self-serving. Not one would save Spidey if he were to fall 100ft to his death or in close proximity to a bomb.

B) Peter Parker is still just an awkward teen with a quick wit, nerdy smarts, and some growing to deal with his situations. With bullies, girls, Aunt May/Happy, villains...all situations. Tom Holland is always learning on the fly and getting there with his smarts and luck. Toby McGuire was never good with the ladies or cool (without the suit...just a weak loser) and Garfield was just a smarmy Emo-kid(both in and out of suit). Holland is everything Spidey.

C) MCU Spidey has heart. MCU Spidey still wants to be normal. MCU Spidey has to actually figure things out and not wait in the villain to turn good and spare him.

MCU Spidey wins every day of the week.
