Really wish they'd go on and make the sequel/s to Eastern Promises. It was such a good starting point.

Paok,

Thank you for adding Dr. Zhivago and Lara.

You may also wish to explicitly limit your poll to Russian characters that appear in non-Russian productions. Otherwise, you there are literally thousands of Russian characters. Nikolay should be able to provide proper guidance on this matter.

Xenia Onatopp is Georgian, not Russian.
And speaking of which, if I don't say it, I'm sure Nikolay Yeriomin will, when he sees this list. You need to clearly define the term ''Russian''. What I want to say is, do you count all Soviets as ''Russian'', or only Russian Soviets are fit for your list?

Nikolay, was not Xenia in the Russian Army and a KGB Agent?

She was in the SOVIET army (not KGB, though), but after the Soviet Union collapsed, she became a terrorist.
That's why I suggested for a clear distinction to be made whether non-Russian Soviet characters are eligible for this list.
Either way, Xenia does not belong on it, since the movie GoldenEye is set in the 1990s Russia, after the downfall of USSR. Therefore, she is neither Russian nor Soviet.

Ed,

Technically, Boris Badenov, Natasha Fatale and Fearless Leader are not Russians. They are citizens of the fictional country of Pottsylvania,

I was going to suggest the character from 'The Man from U.N.C.L.E' too but from the latest film, played by Arnie Hammer.

Armie Hammer in The Man from UNCLE 2015

He is more popular indeed, but I suggested the original because my father, a fan of the series, thinks the film version was nothing like the real Kuryakin.

I visited Moscow and St. Petersburg/Leningrad, as well as a few small towns, and it was amazing. I love that country and culture. There are so many good characters that I'm still deliberating over my vote.

Tom Farrell is a navy officer who gets posted at the Pentagon and is to report to the secretary of defense David Brice. He starts an affair with Susan Atwell not knowing that she is Brice's mistress. When Susan is found dead, Tom is assigned to the case of finding the killer who is believed to be a KGB mole!

I want to see this now!

I've never been to Eastern Europe, but I've been told that if you call a Ukrainian or a national from any of the other Russia-adjacent countries a Russian, you are likely to have a vodka bottle smashed over your head :)

Come to think of it, wasn't Gary Oldman's character in Air Force One Kazakh or from one of those other Russia-adjacent places?

Oswald, as a Ukrainian: case-to-case scenario but yes, can confirm. Many people born in Soviet Union still have the joint Russian/Soviet identity. The experience of that dying off has proven to be very traumatic and many people don't get why we are now several different countries in the first place. 80 years of equally traumatic ironing of several very different cultures and territories together does that.
