Live Poll: Best Sci-Fi Movies Based on Book (Dystopia, Apocalyptic, Horror)

All these sci-fi movies (dystopia, apocalyptic, horror) are based on books. When you love a book, few things are more exciting than seeing it turned into a movie. When you initially love a movie, it's never late to know how all the things were on the page. Anyway, love them both or one by one - it's up to you to decide:

What is your favorite movie in the list?
(no comics; titles descended by release year)

List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls043078969/
Poll: https://www.imdb.com/poll/ThtSEGY2Mzs/

Another half of this poll is there.

Suggestions appreciated when the new title is very close to or higher than 6.0 rating and 20.000 votes. The complete list (from where this poll derived as a part) may be in help to rotate options on reasonable basis. Thanks in advance for all the interest.

Gitte Løyche, thank you for making my debut public ))
In the list, the voted title is the last one, but also the closest to the main idea: "books" )))

Hi!
I was a little surprised when had liked to, but could not find the 2011 version more entertaining, in spite of the wider technical opportunities for production. Do you feel the same? Or do you find the new version deserving to be included instead of the 1982?

I find Carpenter's version much better, though since the one from 2011 is a prequel and not a remake, I suppose you could add it as well. Though you are already at 35 choices, so you would have to remove one option, but that's of course up to you.

Thank you. My intention is to include only one movie to be representative for each book story. If different opinions were here, I could make a blitz for such situation in this thread. The Thing (1982) was the most intrigue for me with a view on the 2011 version, but my choice is shared as we see now.

Dan Dassow, please, this pictorial quote is a kind of memento for the younger brother  Fahrenheit 451 waiting around here. May I improve anything there, if needed, to make it live? Thank you.
I do not see anything obvious to improve this poll suggestion.

Please consider that the poll admins depend upon established poll authors to review poll suggestions and make recommendations as warranted.

I hope the current dystopian situation with this half of actual poll is not tending to an apocalyptic one... Please?

Dan Dassow, I've just found the name of this poll in description is the same (short) as for the first part. It should be "Best Sci-Fi Movies Based on Book (dystopy, apocalyptic, horror)" as the name of this topic. A technical mistake of mine. Could you fix it, please?

MAthePA,

IMDb does not support underlined text in list and poll titles. Get Satisfaction does not support underlined text in thread titles.

Sorry for not seeing this when I responded earlier.

Dystopy should be spelled dystropy.

Please change the title of your list from:
Best Sci-Fi Movies Based on Book (dystopy, apocalyptic, horror)

To:
Best Sci-Fi Movies Based on Book (Dystropy, Apocalyptic, Horror)

IMDb uses a variation of the Associated Press (AP) style sheet.

When in doubt about capitalization, use this online tool:
https://capitalizemytitle.com/
Capitalize My Title
Enter your title and select:
"Title Case" and "AP".

Thank you.

I changed "dystopy" to "Dystopia", made the caps where needed, and no underlines. The result:

Poll: Best Sci-Fi Movies Based on Book (Dystopia, Apocalyptic, Horror)

MAthePA,

All of the established poll authors have been newbies.

It's great to help develop new poll authors.

Personally I don't think "A Clockwork Orange" should be considered Sci-Fi, since the only "futuristic" element of the film is the Ludovico treatment, and even back then in the 70's there were already psychology articles dismissing this Pavlov conditioning system. Also, the newspaper have the date of 1971 written in it and 'science fiction' is, in its core, a genre characterized for a huge focus in science or in a society were some futuristic improvement or event marks the whole plot.

P.S: I love the film, I just don't consider it to be part of the genre

Thanks for your feedback.

As the author of this poll, I've had some personal preferences for non-including "A Clockwork Orange" and some other titles here, but they should be and are included to keep the list objective.

There are some other distinctive features that are enough to categorize the novel "A Clockwork Orange" as science fiction by genre. And I see none of them is dropped out of the movie that is also marked as sci-fi on IMDb.

For better or for worse, I try my best to keep the polls abide by objective standards. So in this case I see no objective reasons to take away the choice that is actually enjoyable for 16% of voters.

I'm not arguing you should delete it as choice, this is a discussion thread right? I'm only arguing why I don't consider it to be a Sci-Fi film, and once again, I don't think is unenjoyable, it's kind like putting "2001" in the poll, probably, many people will vote for it since it's one of the most loved pictures of all times, but formally it doesn't count since the book was based on the movie and not viceversa.

Any ways, it's only my opinion, don't take to seriously

It is really hard to take seriously the above said, because the book was published in 1962. If you know better the relative facts, it would be great to see your edits on the Wikipedia as well as IMDb for this matter. Cheers and thank you in advance.
