Ed Jones(XLIX), nah, psychopaths don't get into heated discussions and if they do, they're not passionate. You're not passing the test. ;)

I remember Eli Roth hosting a documentary episode in which they tested him for psychopathy and scared him with the fact that his empathy levels are slightly lower than usual so he could be classified as a partial psychopath. They explained that this situation is a norm variant: some people would care less for people they don't know, but that doesn't determine their overall morals. Logical maximum of that would be someone like Don Vito Corleone.

Sociopaths get into heated discussions though, right?

Ed, you and I can be sociopaths.

Jokes aside, you're in my thoughts re: COVID

Traits of psychopathy:
-lack of empathy
-little or no remorse
-little or no fear
-boldness, disregard of dangers
-superficial but convincing charm
-highly manipulative
-highly stress-resistant
-impulsive
-high self-esteem
-asserting dominance in social situations

Only some murderers are psychopaths (and vice versa), and the same applies to mentally ill people.

I think American Psycho, Nightcrawler, Silence of the Lambs and some others fit perfectly but not all do.

Joker: is shown to have fear, is not initially bold and impulsive and never really manipulative or actually charming and doesn't seem to be stress-resistant. His self-esteem is quite low.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: none of the villains is charming or manipulative in any way. We are not shown enough about them to say much about the other traits. We don't even know if they're remorseful - maybe they think they are in the right.

M: some traits fit well but I think he exhibits great fear and suffers much from the persection.

Yeah, sorry, my bad. I included sociopaths too. I'll work on it.

Edit: I actually combined Psychopathy and Psychological thrillers.

I'll work on the description and probably the title too. Meanwhile, if you have a better suggestion... please. Thank you.

I followed your source (Wikipedia), they did list 'Joker' (2019) as a psychopathy film.

This is interesting because the character defies many of the traits listed by Wikipedia itself. But I guess if you want to keep Joker you can justify it with the list.

'M' (1931) and Leatherface are also categorized as psychopaths. [link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Films_about_psychopaths]

I also read the summaries for the movies you mentioned (on IMDb), users seem to claim they are psychopaths.

Btw, my list is based on other articles and official youtube videos too. (Just so you know that it's not a personal/opinionated list.)

Let's see what the moderators have to say about this. (If they say anything lol)

"Psychopath" is often used as to describe any kind of violent person who seems somewhat crazy or mentally ill. Many people misuse it that way. I expected higher standards from Wikipedia but I added a question regarding the issue.

BONAFIDE BOSS, which is odd, because Leatherface shows a lot of emotion (just not necessarily normal one), while Hans Beckert is a serial killer but is also a tortured soul who can't stop. Beckert in my humble opinion is more of a sociopath plus sexual deviant, while Leatherface is a very hard-to-categorize case.

Nikolay, true ... I been thinking about it since Albstein mentioned it. And that's why I dragged it to the bottom of the list.

I also read an article where a couple of real psychologists were asked to rate psychopath characters. And they rated Leatherface the least realistic.

It is almost impossible to psychoanalyze is a character only based on a movie. Sometimes, they wanted to depict a psychopath, but they added or omitted certain details to make the character more interesting.

I mean that in the end, I don't know on which criteria we can base ourselves to determine if a character is worthy or not to be integrated in the list.

A few suggestions off the top of my head:

Insomnia - either Norwegian original (1997) - rated 7.3 / hollywood remake (2002) - rated 7.2)
Les rivières pourpres (The Crimson Rivers) (2000) - rated 6.9
Kiss The Girls (1997) - rated 6.6
Zodiac (1997) - rated 7.7

I think that Insomnia (2002) would be a better choice for the poll since the 1997 one is probably less known.

If you have 'Natural Born Killers' in the list/poll, then it's arguable that you should also include 'Badlands' (1973 - rated 7.8), which although a film with different method/messages, it must have been in Oliver Stone's thoughts when he made NBK.

Your choice :-)
I thought with the 18s and other Xs in the list, it might be the type you were looking for.

Good idea! I'm surprised it hasn't been done before. Good list, too; my favorite is Silence of the Lambs.

FYC:

Goodfellas
The Usual Suspects
The Night of the Hunter
The Talented Mr. Ripley
Misery
Reservoir Dogs
There Will Be Blood

Here's a very brief article about the depiction of psychopaths in film:
