These characters are depressed, their face conveys sadness, and their lives make no sense to them. Which is the most depressive?

Very good poll idea!
I suggest Arthur Fleck from Joker (2019).
And if that one looks bad when cropped, you can use this one.

I would also like to suggest this image from In Bruges (2008). The character on the picture, called Ray, is contemplating suicide.

And I'm sure some will disagree with me, but I always thought that Rick from Casablanca (1942) is showing signs of depression.

#11 (Sean Penn)
#16 (Sean Penn )
#22 (Sean Penn)

PS: He always has the same facial expression.

Conclusion: Sean Penn knows how to play depression.

Hi Joe. I always like your poll ideas and lists so much. This is another one that I think is quite good. When I saw the title, I immediately thought of Julie from 'Blue' (from the 'Three Colors' trilogy), who is on the list, although then I saw Sylvia Plath on your list and, having read studied Plath's work for years, I thought that choosing only one of these two would be difficult. There are a lot of other compelling characters on this list, as well. 'Well done!

I mined this poll of mine (https://www.imdb.com/poll/L7TrvkdAj3s/?ref_=po_ho) for some ideas and some other characters came to mind, as well.

Thanks for the praise Rub. Julie Vignon was one of the first characters that came to my mind while doing the list, is one of the strongest depressions I've seen in the movies, constantly looking for some kind of feeling or pain to check if still alive inside (the scene where he hits the wall with his knuckles is really poetic) Although I never saw Sylvia's movie, I've read enough about this woman and I'm aware of her terrible depression.

Oh, may I suggest one small edit to the intro? ("who" or "which character" instead of "which)

Who is the most depressive?

Thanks. : )

An interesting poll. I would add Harrison Ford in Bladerunner. Not the most obvious choice, but I think one could describe Deckard in that way.
