After looking over the entire list of villainous characters that were on that roster, the only one that I could choose was "THANOS" from the "AVENGERS" films.

The sharks or the alligators.
I think you should put a 'disclaimer' on this list that asks the poll-admin to wait until the end of the year to let it go live.  There's plenty of upcoming movies with villains and we don't know them all yet.

I don't think the editors will make it live. It's early indeed. It's supposed to be an ongoing list which will be updated throughout the year.

Joker is indeed a supervillain. But in the 2019 movie, I hardly believe that he was portrayed as a villain. He is a protagonist in the film.

BONAFIDE BOSS, he is still a villain protagonist: while media suggested for months before the movie release that he might not clearly be one and will be glorified, that's hardly what happens in the movie.

I think that, in Joker, he's an anti-hero.

My Opinion (You can place pretty much every character on one of those):

Anti-Hero: Does the Right Thing in the wrong way (Deadpool)
Hero: Does the Right Thing in the right way (Superman)
Vilain: Does the Bad Thing in the wrong way (Hannibal Lecter)
IDK: Does the Bad Thing in the right way (No Idea)

For me, Arthur Fleck fits in the "Vilain" spot.

Hero : does the right thing with the right intentions in the right way
Antihero: does the right thing with the right intentions in the wrong way
Villain: does the wrong thing with the wrong intentions in the wrong way (or right from his perspective)
Antivillain: does the wrong thing with the right intentions in the wrong way OR does the right thing with the wrong intentions in the right or wrong way

In my opinion he is a villain protagonist. As ELMo said since Travis Bickle is considered a villain why not Joker?

rubyfruit76, my five cents: still a villain protagonist if incredibly sympathetic one and, as in case of Taxi Driver (1976) we really gravitate more towards Arthur than anyone else in the story.

cinephile, "IDK: Does the Bad Thing in the right way (No Idea)". Interesting. That's probably another type of anti-hero.

There is also a slippery but great type of anti-villain: is still an antagonist of the story, despite essentially doing the right thing. Sometimes villains transcend into this in strange redeeming arcs: they're now technically right, but still behave like a villain and all of the sufficient methodology is there. Sometimes we just have anti-villains as a natural response to a charming anti-hero or villain protagonist. It's often an archenemy in the latter case, because usual means of defeating a villain won't work on anti-villain and one just plagues anti-hero constantly.

How about images without named or titles on it? I think it is the most suitable format for characters-based polls.

Of course images suit better with these kind of polls. I just thought to make it with posters cause it might have a small possibility with the Homepage. It's a little impossible but I'd take my chances.

Paok, a friendly advice, don't let the homepage thing be the driver of your creativity, especially since the homepage ain't what it used to be anymore. Your poll is definitely a character-based one and it works perfectly with images, I've been doing villains polls as much as quotes polls (https://www.imdb.com/poll/JzSdF0p1iA0/resultshttps://www.imdb.com/poll/nK3G_HvyFCQ/resultshttps://www.imdb.com/poll/Bd7E9235uZU/results etc.)
and believe me, villains' pictures are so cool-looking, so photogenic that there's no need spoiling them with writing all over their faces, you've got plenty of good ideas that are suitable for the homepage, 2019 was a great year for villains and there are very cool wordless pictures of them.
I hope this will resonate...
by the way, images poll can make it in the homepage:

I don't believe that John Reid is a vilain, he was in the movie, but not in real life.

Paok, there's a bit of a discussion above about whether the Joker, in Joker, is a villain.

I think in that movie his role can be called of an 'anti-hero'.

But in 'Dark Knight' it was definitely a villain.

Travis Bickle made it in AFI's TOP 50 Villains... and the Joker is worse than Travis.

Elmo is right.

In 'Joker' 2019, Arthur Fleck a.k.a the Joker is an Anti-Supervillain / Anti-villain.

Joker in Joker(2019) is best described as an anti-hero.

Like the guy from Crime and Punishment, etc.

So Thanos wins by default.

Abi, might actually be an unpopular opinion, but I can't perceive Rakolnikov as anything else but villain protagonist. It might just be my pet peeve for people who can't hold their aggression and violent impulses inside, though.

I'll let you know that this suggestion was skipped because you posted it very early, apparently to keep someone else from making this poll. So perhaps it's not always a good idea to do that.

Really? I also made the suggestion 'Most Anticipated Movie of 2020' way to early and now it's live. https://www.imdb.com/poll/5eeQNjbNZ14/?ref_=po_ti
So if what you are saying it's true, that the suggestion 'Best Movie Villain of 2019' was skipped because I posted it very early, then the suggestion 'Most Anticipated Movie of 2020' shouldn't have been live either. So it is not my fault that I made this suggestion early it's editors fault because they didn't clarify this 'timely' rule you are referring to.

I would not claim that these things are always consistent or based on rules.

There is at least one difference, though: this poll subject was done by Dibyayan for several years, and I imagine he might have made it again.

Ok, so the suggestion skipped because this subject was previously done by Dibyayan. So skip the 'posted it very early' excuse it is not working on me.

The 'timely' thing is irrelevant as I explained with arguments with the 'Most Anticipated Movie of 2020'. You said it yourself that 'these things are not always consistent', so sometimes the suggestions go live sometimes they don't. No conspiracy or whatever, in contrast with this case.

I didn't remember asking you why this suggestion was not used, I just agreed to cinephile that it is sad that this poll never went live. Besides, who told you that I wasn't aware of why this suggestion never went live? I am long enough member of this community to understand how the editors think.
