""Who Framed Rodger Rabbit" is in a league by itself.
If you want to include CGI as animation "Casper" (1995)

I don't think I do - in fact, I think the parameters I'll set will follow a quote by Ebert:

In my mind, it isn't animation, unless it looks like animation."

To bad because 3D animation is CGI because you have to use a computer program, create a 3D model on a computer, and use computer graphics to make it. That means you would have to axe "The Lego Movie" off your list and also not consider "Inside Out" and "Stewart Little" as well. You want to reconsider this.
Also the ghosts in "Casper" do look like animations more than they look realistic.
Does this look real to you? Oh yeah, this ghost is definitely 3D animated.

Great list. I'd also add Heavy Traffic andThe Congress to the list, though my vote would still probably have to go to Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Thanks Galen! I've added both of your films; appreciate the input. And I do think WFRR would stand a good chance at taking the poll.

For your consideration:
Gene Kelly and Jerry Mouse in Anchors Aweigh (1945)

FYI: Walt Disney's Alice series of shorts all combined a live action Alice with animated characters.
Alice's Wonderland (Short) through Alice in the Big League (Short)
These shorts preceeded Mickey Mouse.

Thanks for the input Dan! I'm not sure yet if I should include shorts or not, but I have added Anchors Aweigh (1945) for now and will consider the others you have mentioned. Thank you.

Kyle,

I wasn't suggesting that you add Disney's Alice series. I thought you might find this interesting.

Dan,

That makes sense. They do look interesting, always is to learn a bit more about Disney's origins - they'll be perfect for a quiet night where a long film isn't as enticing! :)

- Fantasia

- Fantasia 2000

- Saludos Amigos (1942) (which was mentioned in one of the links Dan posted for "Anchors Away".)

- The Three Caballeros (1944)

and I will still fight for it because IMHO it deserves to be on this list - Casper (1995)

- Inside Out (2015)

Thanks grang, I've added all except for Inside Out (2015). Not sure it would qualify as both.

Kyle,

Since Fantasia is my favorite film, I cannot believe I didn't think of that film.

For consideration:
Fantasia 2000 (1999) - This has a similar concept as the original Fantasia. The orchestra is introduced. Each animated sequence is introduce by a different celebrity.

Allegro non troppo (1976) - Very similar in concept to Fantasia. A live action women's orchestra acts as a frame for animated sequences set to classical music.

The Incredible Mr. Limpet (1964) - Henry Limpet is transformed into a fish. When he becomes a fish those sequences are animated.

Dan, your are not the only one who is surprised for not thinking of that first. Me too. I'm a fan of Disney's early works and at one time wanted to be an director and animators. I have books on Disney, Disney's early history, and the studio's art. So I know how radical and groundbreaking both artistically and technically "Fantasia" is. It really is a turning point in theater sound. That film is the reason why I bought a Laserdisc player at the time they were being sold. I wanted the best picture and sound available then to play [
THAT FILM ( but "Pinnochio" is still my favorite Disney film). I even have the sound track album on both vinyl and cd.
But Dan, it is you that started me on the path to remembering "Fantasia" so therefore, you do share the credit for the suggestion of "Fantasia". "How?", you say. It was that reference to "Saludos Amigos" (1942) in video link that you posted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zlwbf... . It started a chain reaction that I would have never gone if that wasn't mentioned. Fallow me. Disney started a branch of the company to make and market films for Mexico, Latin America and South America (chiefly Brazil and Argentina). "Saludos Amigos" (1942) and "The Thee Caballeros" are the most widely known animations of this branch of Disney in the U.S.A. . They are both clones of "Fantasia", especially "The Three Caballeros" . It was an attempt to do for Latin music what Fantasia did for classical music. That was how Fantasia came in.
And speaking of Fantasia clones which Disney several of ti different types of music, there is "Melody Time" which has these two sequences in it :"Blame It On The Samba" with Ethel Smith https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TD64... and "Pecos Bill" with Roy Rodgers and the Sons of the Pioneers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5Y3gO8...
Also since the video also mentioned George Pal and his puppet toons, well with it's cobbler and the elves section "The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm" (1962) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056700/?...

In all seriousness, my vote goes to The Lego Movie.
