Live Poll: Best Detective Series of the 70s

Forensic science has changed the job of police detectives dramatically over the last 50 years. DNA phenotyping, high-tech crime scene analysis, CODIS (FBI's database of prior felons, missing persons and arrestees) and computerized forensic profiling were not available or not as advanced as today.

Fifty years ago, solving crimes was mostly based on old-fashioned police scrutiny. Which is your favorite detective series from the 1970s?

I grew up with Horst Tappert playing Derrick (1974–1998). The show ran for such a long time (25 seasons!) that I think I can distinguish Derrick's intro tune after two notes from a million other ones.

leavey-2, I've seen a few episodes, as it was on TV in Ukraine. Had no idea it ran for so long, astonishing.

I really liked the poll, (and there is no way it could include all of the dectective series of the 70s), however I would like to give a shout out for Hawaii Five-0, which did a pretty good job of explaining how the crimes were committed and how they were solved.

In many ways you're right that Hawaii Five-O (1968–1980) is one of the best detective series of the 70s, but the only reason it's not included in the poll is because it first aired in the 60s while all the other series in the poll started in the 70s.
